Today is #NationalComingOutDay & yesterday was #WorldMentalHealthDay - so I'd like to take this opportunity to share some facts with you:
•Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among young people ages 10 to 24.
• LGBTQ youth seriously contemplate suicide at almost three times the rate of heterosexual youth.
•LGBTQ youth who come from highly rejecting families are 8.4 times as likely to have attempted suicide as LGBTQ peers who reported no or low levels of family rejection.
This is why it's so important, for those of us who can, to speak out & make ourselves heard. To stand, proud of who we are & unashamed of any hardships we may face, carries more power then we may realize. There are still children (& adults!) in this world struggling to figure out who they are/where they fit in & with how to express the feelings they are dealing with. But they are not alone. I am queer & I suffer from depression + anxiety. These labels are part of me, but they are not all of me. 💕🏳️🌈✨ •(check the link in my bio for ways you can help protect at risk LGBTQ youth)•
