Just. Wow. Like #SharkWeek for real! 😊Sharks get a bad wrap. I'm relieved nobody was hurt, of course, but personal responsibility dictates once you willingly venture into the home of such fiercesome and epic creatures like SHARKS, you must understand the risks. SHARKS and whales are my daughter's fave. SHARKS and Sea Turtles are mine. We both are enchanted by dolphins. *Dana Point always a great spot to be up close and personal! So grateful we get to live in Southern California 💙 @raineeboots @healthebay @oceana #protectouroceans #sharks #sharkweek

Guests and crew on a charter fishing boat had a surprise encounter with a mako shark over the weekend in Dana Point! Captain Bo Daniel spotted the shark while leading a trip for @danawharf. They were looking for yellow tail, but the shark took the bait. It is legal to catch mako sharks in California. As they worked to hold it on the line, Captain Daniel says it began putting on a show, jumping out of the water. Then the mako, estimated at nearly 12 feet and 400 pounds, came just feet from the boat. The captain put some space between the massive shark and his boat, for safety's sake. But, it kept jumping, and after a few minutes of struggling, the shark broke loose and swam off. An outcome the captain is just fine with. "It was just as fun letting him get away, so the experience is great. I'm just glad no one got hurt."
