When expressing gratitude, be specific and genuine. Most people see right through a false sense of appreciation. By expressing specific things for which you are grateful, it reinforces your sincerity and gives the recipient and even greater sense of value and pride.
To develop a habit of gratitude try keeping a "Gratitude Journal". For five minutes each day, write down all the things you are grateful for. No set order, format, or types of things. Just write down the things you are grateful for and then remember those throughout your day.
