Mink are bred and farmed specifically for their fur. In the wild, these creatures would be found burrowing and swimming in ponds and rivers. On fur farms, they live in cramped and filthy cages, suffering from severe stress as a result of this confinement.

On December 14th, New Jersey became the first U.S. state to ban the use of wild animals in circuses.
.
#NoseysLaw - named after a 36-year-old elephant who suffered abuse in a traveling circus and is now living safely at a wildlife refuge - recognizes both the animal welfare concerns and public safety concerns of forcing wild animals to perform.
.
Times are changing! This progressive move is great news for animals and sets a positive example for other states to follow.

"The ship completely dwarfed us. I was struck by the smell. Even from further away we could smell the boat approaching. At almost every window you could see animals crowded together. The ones at the windows are lucky because they’re getting fresh air... The story doesn’t end when the ships arrive at port."

A review of Captive from Andrew Westoll, author of The Chimps of Fauna Sanctuary: “To experience Jo-Anne McArthur’s photography is to absorb the revolutionary idea that the loneliness of a captive animal is our own loneliness—that their confiscation from the natural way of being is our own confiscation from the same. And that perhaps the solution to their existential plight might be the beginning of a solution to our own. Breathtaking, mournful, vital."

Meat and dairy consumption are on the rise in Asia, with devastating consequences for animals and the environment. The @unbound_project spoke to Mia MacDonald, founder of Brighter Green, about how activists in other regions can effectively support those working on the ground in Asia to tackle the complex problems of animal agriculture.

Meet Mari – a Sumatran orangutan who was rescued from a research facility where she was part of a language and cognition study.
.
She now spends her days at the @centerforgreatapes in Florida, USA. This sanctuary provides a permanent home for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been rescued or retired from research, the entertainment industry, or exotic pet trade.
.
Mari lost both of her arms in an accident when she was an infant, but uses her chin and feet to maneuvere successfully through her environment.
.
In this photograph, she is playing with a sheet.
