One of the greatest aspects of the world of Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the incredible variety & sheer number of distilleries in Scotland. There are about 128 distilleries operating currently with more planned, including some formerly closed/mothballed distilleries reopening in the next few years.
And while some distilleries have certain varietal distinctions or claims to fame, only four can claim they are the furthest in any cardinal direction. And the most Easterly distillery in Scotland is the delightful @glengarioch (pronounced "Glen geery"). Located in Aberdeenshire, about 17 miles from Aberdeen, this highland distillery has been producing whisky since 1797, also making them one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland.
And best of all, their expressions are delicious, covering a nice range, including peated, bourbon & sherry cask aged varieties. So do yourself a favor and find a bottle!
