Michael Jackson

“Dance suddenly became a rage in India because of MJ. India was shocked to see a man who could dance like him and I too was shocked and inspired by him. He had a unique dance style, it wasn’t break dance ... it was just typical Jackson Style!” – Prabhu Diva

The greatest of all time: Michael Jackson entertained over 600,000 people over five shows at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico in 1993, shattering all previous attendance records.

While touring is grueling and highly scheduled, Michael was unique in that he always found time to visit hospitals to comfort the patients. During one stretch on the HIStory tour in 1996, Michael visited children’s hospitals and orphanages in Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane, and Bangkok, and donated $100,000 to an orphanage and a school for the blind.

There was no one more spectacular.

“And though he's now in the 14th month of his world tour, it was endearing during the show's third number, "Another Part of Me," to see the look of pure, beatific bliss on Jackson's face as he closed his eyes, spun around, landed on his toes and did all the usual right moves. Jackson really seemed to be still enjoying this--caught up and self-hypnotized in his own private, wonderful world.” – The LA Times reviews Michael’s show at Irvine Meadows, November 7, 1988

Recently, Michael was honored by the Paley Center for Media recognizing his legacy in music on television. During the ceremony, Berry Gordy summarized his influence like this:
“Michael Jackson reigns as the undisputed King of Pop not just because of his exceptional talent, but because he was able to package that talent in a whole new way. In both form and content, Jackson simply did what no one had done before – pure magic mixed with unforgettable, transcendent performances.”

“Music is what lives and what lasts. Invincible has been a great success. When the “Nutcracker Suite” was first introduced to the world it totally bombed. What’s important is how the story ends.” – Michael Jackson
Invincible was released October 30, 2001 and debuted number one on the US Billboard Charts.
As the years have progressed, it has become a fan favorite album.

“(Michael Jackson) was a bigger philanthropist than most people gave him credit for. ‘We Are the World’ marked what at that time was a high point in rich-world concern about poor people in the developing world. That sort of awareness helps to open the way not only for more effective foreign assistance but for other changes in policy, such as trade and migration, that can have a big impact on poor people’s lives.”- USA for Africa director Marcia Thomas and the Center for Global Development’s Nancy Birdsall.

On October 11, 1997, Michael was made an honorary member of the Bafokeng Ka Bakwena (People of the Crocodile) tribe in South Africa. Reportedly, on the way to the ceremony, Michael and his party saw two men fighting and covered in blood on the side of the road. Michael stopped the car, got out, and approached the two men to ask them why they were fighting. The two surprised men stopped fighting immediately.
