Edited version of one of my recent oil paintings. When I paint interior murals I often desaturate the colours. I believe I first heard this concept from @jamesgurneyart that it was a method to create a calm vibe in a room (not his words). James Gurney, if you didn’t know, is the creator of Dinotopia and I’m a huge fan of his work and the way he freely shares art knowledge.
I would really like to know your favourite from this weeks miniature series. This week I’ve realised two things. 1:I love painting miniatures almost as much as murals and 2:I need new glasses. Oil on canvas 4x6” (10x15cm) #surfart#surfartist
The glass before the storm. You can feel the low pressure within your very being on those moments before the storm. The elements align and the wind disappears like a long held breath. Oil on canvas. 4x6”
Into the Moody Blue. 2019. This is my first painting of the year. It’s a journey back into a a recurring dream. I’d love to hear from anyone who knows a spot like this so as to find out if it’s my imagination or a memory. This piece is available from my website. 4x6” oil on canvas.
I’m in Adelaide attending an art course this week and it’s been a great time to reflect back on some of my favourite projects. Most painters will know that feeling when a few months after completing a piece all the imperfections, anxieties and second guessing your marks are forgotten and you can enjoy it for what it is. 📷 @youfoundamber
