There’s a saying somewhere that most people never go far enough on their first wind to discover their second wind. Well running 100 miles means exhausting your 4th or 5th breath, and still persisting relentlessly.
Today I completed my first 100 mile ultra. The Superior 100. A point to point 103.3 trail race on the Superior Hiking Trail with 21,000 feet of elevation gain and a 38 hour cutoff. It is one of the 10 oldest 100 mile races in the United States. With a rich history, and a devout following, the Superior 100 is one of the most special races I have ever been apart of. I whined, I cried, I bitched and moaned... I was even called a diva multiple times, but I never once considered giving up. I had a goal to get my finisher buckle and the coveted finisher hoodie, and I didn’t stop until I got them.
