llamatone Another mockup for the new 20 watt plus LLAMATone. What do you think about a copper-clad chassis plate? #mockup I'm curious about copper's effect on grounding and interactions with the aluminum chassis. Any one? 7d
  •   ianmbinmb Not sure if this what your asking, but I've always veered on the side of caution, even if the chassis were gold plated I'd still wire a perhaps redundant ground circuit incorporating the chassis but not dependent on it 7d
  •   magneticfluxmusic In one of my books there is discussion of electron flow at the junction of two dissimilar metals. Supposedly there is "turbulence" at these spots. In my mind, this occurrence is mostly academic and does not really for a tube amp. 7d
  •   magneticfluxmusic *matter 7d
  •   magneticfluxmusic I use "galactic" grounding on my amps and, whenever possible, isolated-galactic grounding. 7d
  •   llamatone Thanks @magneticfluxmusic and @Ianmbinmb !! I heard about that turbulence as well and I agree. And I will be tacking solder as well as grounding fasteners through out the discontinuity. Thanks for your thorough inputs. 6d
  •   llamatone So @magneticfluxmusic is galactic grounding where each stage directly grounds to the chassis? I tend to star ground because of my complex chassis. Usually two chassis/circuit connections, and bus the entire circuit; terminating each end to chassis. The chassis elements are all grounded at several points. What books did you write? 6d
  •   magneticfluxmusic @llamatone My goodness, I've never written a book! LOL! But authors Kevin O'Connor and Merlin Blencowe have written some great books describing galactic grounding. Think of it like local-star grounding, or sub-star grounding. The cathode of each filter cap gets its own star. 6d
  •   llamatone @magneticfluxmusic Ha! I thought you might have been the scholarly type. I have a few Merlin books. He's awesome. I'll take another look. At that. Thanks again! 6d

  •   rafaelgomesluthier Hey @llamatone , nice strat. Come holiday in Brazil and bring your guitar. I will refret it, if you want. I have nice stainless steel frets here. It will be my gift to you. See ya! :) 6d
  •   llamatone @rafaelgomesluthier WOW! What an offer. My frets are getting worn around the middle of the fretboard, and stainless no less. As much as I want to fly right down to Brazil, my square day job, wife and kids all keep me grounded. Maybe some day. Thank you!! 5d

llamatone There's no school like Old School! This is a paper mockup of the ToneBox panel. You can see all the necessary switches for a complete tube gain stage fitting. 2w

llamatone I can't imagine why the 47 ohm resistance is wrong on the decade decade switch. I just picked this Knight decade resistance box up off eBay. Luckily I had another resistor to replace this broken one. After it was off I could see that it split from over heating. I love these old rich components. 2w

llamatone Another shot of the Phoenix. This setup seems to be very popular with the vintage crowd. It's not based on any previous amp but still has that sound that the peeps go crazy for. 3w

llamatone Mayor Goldie Wilson. Progress is his middle name! #BacktotheFuture This decade switch is one of 5 knobs in the ToneBox that can map the voicing of your amp to the tone in your head. Progress is a good thing. 4w

llamatone It looks like these switches are getting their hair did. Progress is meted out in many twists and occasional perversions. 4w

llamatone Two projects that have not seen movement in a few weeks. Come on brain! Luckily I just had a breakthrough on the tone box on the left. 4w

  •   dv8customs Good call bolting it to the floor 4w
  •   lunchie_b @dv8customs its just bolted to the plate, welded some studs to some 1/4", make it mobile so i can bring it wherever but still be stable enough to work 4w
  •   mrmojo112 Who carries both these tools, super neat stuff! @lunchie_b 4w
  •   lunchie_b @mrmojo112 JDSquared sells a couple tube notchers, this being their best one. I got the hole-saw bits and level from Lowes. 4w

cheeseboi My initial design layout of 'Missy 2se' Class A Valve Pre-Amplifier - still haven't decided where to put the volume potentiometer - any ideas? And yes it's going to be rack mountable ;-) #missypreamp #rackcity #audioproject #audiotechnician #diyvalve #tubeamp #valveamp #tubeporn #valves 1mon
  •   jonsday Looking good 1mon
  •   evansvintage Put a balance on the left and a volume on the right 1mon
  •   cheeseboi @evansvintage function switch is gonna be on the right and volume knob in the center, and I'm thinking of not having a balance pot. Mybe at the back with 4 turns (left only, left+right, right only, mute!) 4w
