itsmarcwillow This dizzying cobblestone pattern is to be found on one of Lisbon's main squares: the ROSSIO.
Designed in 1849 it was supposed to symbolize Lisbon's geographical and ideological proximity to the sea. Did you know that in the olden days each wave had a number? It was common to meet "at the wave No. 8", for example.
The pattern soon proved to be so popular that squares all over Portugal emulated it in the following decades.
