lizandmarilyn The turban is a very classic beauty method. As you see, many vintage actresses weared this with grace. And often it only accentuated their beauty. #joancrawford #hedylamarr #lindadarnell #sophialoren #lanaturner #lucilleball #gloriaswanson #gretagarbo #turban #vintage #oldhollywood #love 3d

oldhollywoodandwine -In her autobiography, she stated that her true birthdate is February 8, 1921. She stated that "I am one year younger than the records show."
-Billy Wilkerson of The Hollywood Reporter found her sipping a Coke in a drugstore and was so taken by her he blurted out that standard Hollywood line, "How`d you like to be in pictures?". Her first role, sure enough, had her in a tight skirt and even tighter sweater sitting at a drugstore counter.(She was called the Sweater Girl. Interestingly, Lana, translated into Spanish means "wool")
-Her eyebrows were shaved off for the bit part of a harem girl early in her screen career. They never grew back.
-Her auburn hair was bleached for Idiot`s Delight (1939). She was withdrawn from the film, but the fact that she had become a blonde not only changed her screen image but gave her such an outgoing, swinging personality that Hollywood called her the Nightclub Queen.
-Said that her turn as Cora Smith in The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) was "the role I liked best".
-Once she was forced to evacuate her apartment building when a fire broke out. Having only minutes to collect what she needed, Lana grabbed her lipstick, her eyebrow pencil and her hairdryer.
-She was being interviewed by Hedda Hopper, Lex Barker, Lana`s future husband, was in the same room. There was a large vase of flowers blocking her view of Lex, so Lana got up, walked across the room and removed them, remarking, "He`s brand new and I want to look at him!"
-A long-time heavy smoker, Turner died at the age of 74 on June 29, 1995 of complications from throat cancer at her home in Century City, Los Angeles, California. Turner's remains were cremated. ( She left behind one daughter.)
-"The Private Diary of My Life With Lana", a memoir, written by one of her closest friends, Eric Root, was published one year after her death. Root, a long time friend and hairdresser of Turner`s, has a large collection of jewelry that belonged to Miss Turner. He still owns the beauty salon in Beverly Hills where Turner and many other iconic stars were clients.

oldhollywoodandwine -Gable and Lombard first met in late 1924 while working as extras on the set of Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925). They would make three films together as extras, Ben-Hur, The Johnstown Flood (1926) and The Plastic Age (1925) and star together in No Man of Her Own (1932), but not become romantically attached until 1936.
-Just before her relationship with Clark Gable began in earnest, Carole read and loved the book 'Gone With the Wind'. Excited, she sent a copy of the book to Gable, with a note attached reading "Let's do it!". Gable wrongly assumed she was making a sexual advance to him, and called Carole to organize a date. When he found out Carole wanted to make a film the book with him as Rhett Butler and herself as Scarlett, he refused, and kept the copy of the book she had given him thereafter in his toilet.
-The decision to take the plane which eventually killed Carole and her mother was decided literary on the flip of a coin, with Carole winning the toss. The plane they took was a military convoy which made many stops in order to pick up troops. After the first stop, an officer requested Carole, her mother and publicist to get off the plane to make room for more troops. Carole reportedly argued with him, stating the fact she had raised more than half a million dollars in war bonds and had the right to stay on. The officer finally conceded, and shortly after, the plane crashed.

  •   oldhollywoodandwine -The plane crash that killed her took place less then a month before the Oscars. Despite her mothers premonition of the disaster, she refused to take a train to Los Angeles. She was reputedly in a rush after getting wind of an alleged affair between her husband Clark Gable and `Lana Turner` who were filming Somewhere I`ll Find You at the time.
-Her film To Be or Not to Be (1942) was in post-production when she died in the crash, and the producers decided to leave out a part that had her character ironically saying, "What can happen in a plane?"
-Carole Lombard had a little dachshund named Commissioner that ignored Clark Gable completely. After her death in 1942, the dog would not leave Gable`s side.
-After her death, the Van Nuys News ran an unusual front page tribute: "Down deep in their hearts, those who had chatted with her over the back fence or across a garden row knew that Carole Lombard wanted more than anything else to be a model housewife and a good neighbor. And she was just that. She was a loveable person, just as much at home in blue denims and ginghams as she was in furs and jewels.". 3d
