I've done the rounds with dieting. Did I lose weight on a low carb, high protein diet? Sure, I lost a little. But, (this is the most important question yet everyone forgets to ask it) how did I feel? I had zero energy, I was depressed and anxious, I suffered from regular headaches, my digestion was screwed and I was never satisfied no matter how much I ate.
Have I lost weight on a high carb diet? Yes. How do I feel? Incredible!

My point is, there are plenty of diets that 'work'. You can lose weight on high carb, low carb, high protein, high fat, low calorie blah blah blah. Weightloss is a welcome side effect of a healthy lifestyle and pretty much the last thing you should consider when deciding on how you should eat. Things you should consider:
Will this diet make me truly healthy?
Will this diet improve my quality of life?
Will I be able to function normally on this diet - go out for dinner, see friends etc.?
Will I be satisfied on this diet?
And most importantly: will I be able to eat this way for the rest of my life?
