  • pain_and_gain Endurance 'Cardio is for pussy's' - how many guys have you heard utter those words? Not many, I hope. But there is a growing misconception in the fitness world that cardio is not only unnecessary but can actual be bad for you, in terms of building muscle. The fact is, stamina and endurance are both pivotal aspects of fitness, which everyone should aim to improve. Those guys that think cardio is for pussy's, ask them to do sets of clean and jerks and deadlifts backs to back and watch how quickly they run out of breath. The fact is, building muscle is hard. You don't want to make it harder by not training your heart and lungs to become increasingly efficient at transporting essential oxygen, blood and nutrients to your muscles when they need it most. Don't let your cardio vascular system fail before your muscles do - this will mean your muscles are not being pushed to their maximal potential. By increasing your VO2 max and working close to your maximal heart rate, your body will adapt and allow your muscles to recover quicker and allow you to get back to smashing those extra sets and reps. If you're worried about losing muscle, it's simple, INCREASE YOUR CALORIES. And by cardio I don't mean riff-raffing your way through a treadmill session, get on that HIIT. Do circuits instead if you hate running. Combine a few compound movements back to back, with minimal rest. I apologise in advance for the pain this workout may cause.   1h
