Valencia St Francis Hospice for Cats
sfhfc I popped into the hospice tonight after work to see how a few of the residents were doing. I took this picture of Annette, who is one if our regular volunteers, with her hands full. She has three of the residents on her knee, you can clearly see Zak and Joy, and between them is a fluffy tail. Do you know who that might be??? I am pleased to say that Joy has been eating well for the past two days so paws crossed that this can continue in order for her to gain her strength again. 2mon

sfhfc I just wanted to share this picture on this dull and wet Monday morning as it really makes me smile. It features Joy who I think is the top #photobomber at SFHFC.
But the question in this picture is; who is photobombing who, Joy? me? Or Shy-Annie?

sfhfc Vet Rounds

On Saturday our resident vet Abdul came to the hospice to give all of our residents a check over. Thankfully for a number of our residents there were no particular health issues. Listed below are the main residents which we have concerns about at the moment. Joy - Earlier this week Joy had needed to be on a drip as she was dehydrated. She has been back at the hospice since Thursday but has not been too keen on eating. She is now on some daily medication to help and we are encouraging her with various nice foods to temp her to eat. If she can build her strength back up then this will be good. She may however have some damage to her gut, if this is the case then it may not be so good. Lulu - Following blood tests she had earlier this week she is now on some daily medication for her kidneys. She is also on a short course of antibiotics to help with an infection. Pendle - Continues with his snotty nose and is now on a different course of antibiotics to help with this. Sylvester - Has somehow obtained an eye injury. He is now having some eye cream twice a day so hopefully this will clear up quickly. Will - He has an infection under his chin and is now on a short course of antibiotics. This won't be easy as he really isn't the easiest of patients to administer tablets too. Winston - Following his ongoing visits to the vets he will continue on steroids for the rest of his life and will be having regular visits to the vets to have a couple of injections. Zoe - Sadly Zoe's health is deteriorating, although she is doing as well as can be expected. Zoe has now started to lose her muscle mass and really is showing her age.

As you can imagine our vet bill has been higher than usual this month so many thanks to everyone who has sent in additional donations. These really do help our charity and we are very grateful. As always, we at SFHFC will continue to give the best possible health care as we can to all of our residents.

sfhfc Guess who???? Yes this is wonderful Winston. I've been asked how Winston is doing so just thought I'd post a quick update.
He is eating well and definitely enjoying lots of cuddles. His weight is still a concern but we are hopeful that his daily medication will help him to maintain his weight. We know we can't beat old age (he is approximately 18) but one thing we can do is ensure that he receives all the love and affection he deserves right until the day when he leaves us. I also would like to dedicate this post to a lady called Winifred who rescued Winston 9 years ago and bought him to SFHFC. I heard the sad news yesterday that she past away last year. Rest in peace Winifred The past few days have been quite exhausting so I'm logging off now until Monday. See you next week .

sfhfc I'm pleased to say Joy is now back home at SFHFC. We will be keeping an eye on her and checking her weight regularly. It's still early days to say how quickly Joy will bounce back from this but hopefully she will start eating well again and put some weight back on.

Abdul our resident vet is doing a home visit on Saturday to check over all of our residents so will do a follow up to see how Joy is doing then.

As always thank you so much for all of your kind and caring comments, they really are appreciated even though I don't have the time to reply to them.

These are a few pictures of Joy when we got back to the hospice, it was good to see her moving around after being cooped up at the vets. You can also see Winston was happy to share some breakfast with her.

Many thanks

sfhfc Joy has got to stay in the vets on a drip overnight again, but the good news is that the blood test hasn't shown anything serious with her liver or kidneys which had been a concern. The dehydration is likely to be due to a bad bought of diarrhoea. This still gives us a worry as she has lost some weight and is in need of building herself up again.
Depending how things go we are hopeful that we may be able to bring her home tomorrow sometime. Not in the clear yet but a lot happier than I thought I'd be with the results, so thanks to everyone who have had your paws and fingers crossed for Joy .

sfhfc Today has been a worrying day for us at SFHFC. This morning Gill, who is one of our cat carers at the hospice had some concerns about Joy as she really wasn't herself. She was very lethargic and was not interested in any food, she had also had some diarrhoea. This had come on quite suddenly as it was only last night when Joy had been sat on Claire's knee when we nipped into the hospice to drop off some cat food.

I took Joy to the vets at lunchtime and Abdul gave her a thorough examination. Joy is only a lightweight cat and had worryingly lost more weight and was dehydrated. We decided it would be best to keep Joy in the vets on a drip and monitor how things go over the next 24 hours or so. While in the vets she will have a blood test in order for us to confirm exactly what we are dealing with.
We should get the test results tomorrow or Thursday evening. I will be popping in to see her tomorrow before my evening shift at the hospice. I will update you when I know more.

I took this picture just before I left her.
Please keep everything you have crossed for her as after losing Libby only the other week it is difficult to stay positive at this time .

sfhfc Just wanted to say thank you for all of your good wishes for Joy. I took this picture earlier and although I feel you can tell she has lost some weight, I still think her eyes are beautiful here.
I'm off to bed now to get some sleep, let's hope the sun will shine on us tomorrow

  •   renaec She's just beautiful. Get better soon Joy!! 2mon
  •   crowskeep Her eyes go with her coat 2mon
  •   sfhfc @italyano hi, I do follow you already as I think you capture great cat photos. I did once ask to see if you would consider giving our charity a mention as you have such a large following to help us share the work we do. But I understand if not as you probably get a few requests for shout outs. Keep up the great photography 2mon
  •   baxter_chibi Beautiful 2mon
  •   alex_savage How is Joy doing today? 2mon
  •   sfhfc @alex_savage she was settled and on a drip when I rang this morning. I will know more when I pop in later. Will update when I know the results of blood test. Can't believe it Alex, I've got to take Lulu tonight as she has been really under the weather. It's not been a good week 2mon
  •   alex_savage No it hasn't, things will improve. You are all doing such a brilliant job and the hard times come and go. All the love and happiness you give to all the beautiful residents out weigh the bad. You all do your best for them and they know they are loved, and that's what they deserve. I have been thinking about Joy today, as I know this weeks been hard. I will now be thinking of Lulu as well. Wishing you all well 2mon

sfhfc Here we have Zak, Joy and Zoe huddling around the heater. I think it looks like Zak has called them together to let them know that as 'Top Cat' he should get the best position right by the heater . 2mon
