Hudson Jordan E. Rutter
jerutter Happy Earth Day! ---but um...Isn't earth day every day? Or at least shouldn't it be? Aren't there too many natural wonders on this planet to all be contained in 24 hours? Sorry to be difficult I just think that of all the things to get a day, the earth should at least get more than one. It's just too important. Which is why it will take all of us to save it. Education leading to appreciation leading to conservation is key. And that's why I'm trying to what I can with my bird conservation education work. Take this sanderling for example. This bird travels thousands of miles twice a year during their ~10 year life, visiting places of the western hemisphere I can only dream of. And this shorebird relies on the earth as much as I do, but has no voice to yell how important that is. These birds are commonly seen on beaches around the globe running from the water as the waves crash in and cover the best foraging areas temporarily. Everyone loves them and can enjoy them, but only if we keep our entire planet healthy. This world isn't just ours. It's the animals', plants', and our future's too! 20h

  •   birdextremefeatures Jordan I'm with you 100% and the little sandpiper being such a cute little bird is my fav. to watch!! If we all thought like you we wouldn't need an earth day. Thank you!! Linda 17h
  •   gin_nellist Wonderful and well put!! 15h
  •   jud_beb In a way Instagram photographers celebrate the earth and its marvels every day. But, like life, it's full of special 'days' that help us feel together. The birds in my garden are a delight and a mystery, it must be a great skill to know more of their lives, as you do. 5h

  •   durhamnaturalists @blondton13 neat find! not sure what the neat of a carolina chickadee might look like....I have a small nest under my mailbox in the newspaper slot that looks similar...but I'm pretty sure I see a house sparrow fly out every time I approach to check the mail! 1d
