zodiaceng Just in time for this camping trip to Kern! @onedropyoyos x @clyw Summit in @yoyoexpert anodize. Thrown cheaper plastic for as long as I can remember but nothing has ever come anywhere close to spinning as long or stable as this Summit. The machine work on it is flawless and anodize is amazing! Great work guys! Looking forward to throwing this between cycles at the mill. 1w

zodiaceng Over the last couple months leading up to BLADE Show I had been working on components for some folding knives. These used 2-56 pan head screws which seem to be fairly common on folders. I had originally ground my own form tools out of drill bits with decent results. During that time though I gotten together with @alfredlyon and @jmbaker57 from AB Tools to develop a dedicated form tool for these screws that would not only take care of the counterbore itself, but the thru hole and edge breaks. What you see here is a solid carbide 2 flute form tool custom made for these 2-56 screws. I've tested this in various materials with great results and the time saved per hole is well worth the investment. They can be used in a mill or drill press and have a 3/16" shank. These counterbores seem to be one of the bigger issues with making frames and these take care of everything. All you need is a thru hole around .080" diameter. No need to interpolate, modify your screws, grind 11/64" drills or any of that. Contact Alfred at AB Tools for more info and pricing. 4w
  •   crazywhitemachinist Nicely done! Sometimes an all in one tool is best. Especially in a production environment 4w
  •   finncustomknives I seriously need some of these! How fracture prone are they? 3w
  •   zodiaceng @finncustomknives shouldn't have any issues with chipping or cracking as long as you spin them fast. 3w
  •   chrisgoodwynknives @alfredlyon in interested in ordering one of these, but is it possible to change a couple of dimensions? 1w
  •   alfredlyon @chrisgoodwynknives send a drawing with the dimensions that you want to mail@abtoolsinc.com and we will get a quote to you 1w
  •   chrisgoodwynknives @alfredlyon thanks! Email sent. 7d
  •   seanmiksys @zodiaceng I've had two form cutters drawn up for a month and a half for a Bosch Motorsports job now for @alfredlyon and I'm glad I haven't ordered them yet! I was issued the PO a month ago, and they've made two changes since! (Hate that!!!!) but as of next season I will have a cam shaft sensor on every car in nascar (designed in house for the Motorsport group (I used to be an engineer for them)) but the custom tooling is for a fuel pump they designed. 4d
  •   zodiaceng @seanmiksys that's crazy man! Congrats! Used to race when I was a kid. Wish I could afford it still. 4d

zodiaceng What are your thoughts on leaving a tool holder in the spindle over night? I hear arguments from both sides. 2mon
  •   balzanoknives Hey man thanks for the follow I just sent you a direct message check it out and hit me up. 1mon
  •   maritoolusa Many factors involved in a proper tool ejection. Tool holder contact, bearing condition, heat. Many times the trouble can be your air pressure supply. Not just the pressure but the volume you provide your machine. Next time you execute a tool change watch the air pressure gage on the machine regulator. The psi should not drop by more than 8-10 psi. Me personally, I always leave the tool holder in the spindle. Never had any trouble. 1mon
  •   john_spartan_81 @zodiaceng Looking to get some round tool steel milled and cnc'd for a project I'm working on. Been turned down by 3 large companies, hoping you might be able to help? I can send a DM with details if interested 1mon
  •   zodiaceng @john_spartan_81 send it over! 1mon
  •   john_spartan_81 @zodiaceng Sweet I'm at work till 1030 I will send it when I get home! 1mon
  •   aeroknox Leave it. It will be fine 1mon
  •   jairosan71 Haas manufacturer recommend to remove the tool from the spindle before shutdown. By rule we called T1 which is the center drill in all the machines take it out and shutdown. No body can blow air without tool in the spindle 1mon
  •   rknrlla Interesting topic. We use HSK E40 tool holders and never had a problem leaving a tool in the spindle over night, or even for days. None the less, I'm going to ask the machine tool builder for their advice. This is better than cnc zone.com 2w

zodiaceng It is simply my opinion that the best made stuff on ths planet is made by Americans. Americans of every race, color, and flavor... I'm not anti-Taiwanese, anti-Asian, anti-European, or anti-any other culture or race... I'm just pro-American - Ted Ciamillo 2mon
