  •   atrokz Yes you can @simey_binker nobody is getting much out of an m52 in comparison. Its not a motor that takes well to elevated power levels. 30lbs is done in redblocks. 9lbs is considered high in an m52. It just isnt good for it. An s52 getting close to redblock levels is considered success. Variable timing means shit outside of emissions as a race motor should be high lift and durration across the board. Im not saying there is a replacement for displacement, 4 vs 6, but to say any inline 6, like a s52 is going to be 'better' for a max power build isnt true. So many people with junkyard builds have already proven that completely wrong. Yoshifab is running 10s with 5000 bucks into it without overboring. Why are timeattack guys running them? The motor doesnt want to vibrate itself appart and leak oil either. John v, the buchka brothers, the guys in sweden. The list goes on. 2d
  •   atrokz Havent found one s52 above 1000 bud. There is about 10 b2xx tho...... 2jz and rb motors on the other hand...... thats a swap worth doing. 2d
  •   simey_binker There is a difference between variable valve timing (when the valve opens) and lift/duration. Traditional VTECyo (increasing lift/duration) or aggressive cams like the iPd turbo cam is not VVT. VVT changes the timing on the valve lobes so air has an ability to enter the chamber equally easily at low and high RPM. Is it the same reason why changing the advance/delay on spark is necessary; at higher rpm, shit needs to be recalibrated. Advancing the brushes on a DC motor is the same. VVT levels out the powerband. Variable intake also allows torque at high and low RPM. And yes, without balance shafts the B234FT is inherently unstable and leads to cracks in the engine. The guys who pull massive numbers from their red blocks only do so for a short amount of time. With balance shafts, you introduce other reliability issues. I'll find some boosted BMW straight 6s for you 2d
  •   simey_binker @atrokz just search YouTube for turbo BMW; plenty of straight 6s over 1000 hp. M50s, S54s etc. I mean, I would have no need for such power, I'm just saying there is more reliable power to be found in a straight 6. 2d
