thealphamare Good farmers, who take seriously their duties as stewards of Creation and of their land's inheritors, contribute to the welfare of society in more ways than society usually acknowledges, or even knows. These farmers produce valuable goods, of course; but they also conserve soil, they conserve water, they conserve wildlife, they conserve open space, they conserve scenery.

thealphamare If you grew up in a rural area with a country store, you've likely seen a similar scene...older locals passing time on a lazy summer day talking about the latest world news, their community, and watching cars go by. I miss these simpler times. 2d

  •   freespiritfun1 Omg. I love bees and all they do for nature but boy am I afraid of them. What happened?! 1w

  •   thealphamare @freespiritfun1, I was getting my barn ready for a load of hay to be delivered and was attacked by a new nest of angry wasps that had somehow gotten the impression that my barn belonged to THEM and not be. Territorial claims on my barn are an ongoing battle between me and the local wasp population. They sting my horses too! Never had issues with any species of bees. We need to have more bees and fewer wasps. Then there's yellow jackets...a species of wasp birthed from the very pits of HELL...those suckers are just plain MEAN! 1w
  •   sfshefford Ouch... I got stung a few weeks ago after on flue down my shirt at work... At least once a year... Good luck on your turf war... It may take some back up though. 1w
  •   freespiritfun1 Ugh what a hot mess. Poor horses -- and you! I hope you win the battle 1w

thealphamare It never ceases to ASTOUND me how much pain can be caused by some bastardized variety of stinging insect...nor how far the pain spreads, or how long it lasts.
Ah the pleasures and perils of rural living. Presently swollen and angry red wrist and face aside (yes...FACE), I have successfully reclaimed my barn for hay storage...or at least claimed a fair win for the initial skirmish (I'm certain it won't be the last)...and the nasty little vermin who attacked me has accomplished nothing from this unwarranted attack but my unadulterated hatred and determination to buy about 5 more cans of Hot Shot with which to eradicate the entire barn population. BASTARDS...

thealphamare What IG account is complete without the occasional food pic?! BLT on toast, with a fresh-from-the-garden tomato and an egg from a backyard pet hen. What could be a better way to start a southern weekend?! Except with maybe the addition of some heavily buttered cheese grits... 1w

thealphamare Word of warning...do not gorge on blackberries. That has absolutely NOTHING to do with this pic. But the discomfort that this grievous sin of gluttony has caused me is all I can think about at the moment, as I scramble to post my #rustythursday offering of the week. UGH 2w

thealphamare How strange that the nature of life is change, yet the nature of human beings is to resist change. And how ironic that the difficult times we fear might ruin us are the very ones that can break us open and help us blossom into who we were meant to be.

thealphamare Full day...WHERE does the time go?! But I've developed a habit of posting at least one pic per day, so here it is...albeit a bit late. I'm tired...I smell horsey...my eyes itch...I saw 2 rattlesnakes today...also 2 dead deer...one on the highway near my house and later, a tiny baby on the highway near Landrum...and it broke my heart because I knew it was likely because they were frightened last nite by fireworks. I never got around to my workout...I pissed off my mares with a late supper and no significant yard grazing time, and I have 2 knots in my head where those crappy little ticks were removed and I can't keep my fingers off my scalp because I'm paranoid of more of the little bastards latching onto my head and there's ants in my laundry room. So how was YOUR day?! 2w
  •   thealphamare @warwickmadonna the weather has been lovely here for a couple days now! And that's a LOT of dog walking! 2w
  •   thealphamare Thank you @nancytakesahike! Wasn't too bad a day...the trail ride was wonderful! Could do without seeing dead things, ticks and ants though. I found the rattlers rather fascinating...had never seen one in the wild before! I truly appreciate their willingness to give fair warning with those rattlers...a warning I was happy to heed! 2w
  •   vickieleedeeds I sure hope Sunday will be much better for you! I hate ticks! They are the one thing that creeps me out!! 2w
  •   _memez_ But it was fun, I bet! I mowed grass! 2w
  •   thealphamare Yes @_memez_ it WAS! Be sure to check your head for ticks! LOL (ticks creep me out more than SNAKES @vickieleedeeds!) 2w
