takatukiwi Definitely an indoors kind of day! Rain over Lake Taupo from the deck of our holiday accommodation. The trouble with having a big view - as this place does - is that it makes the contrast even more marked when the weather closes in! 16h

takatukiwi #lush #green - this thermal stream running through Taupo's Spa Park is warm enough to provide a natural greenhouse effect in this little gully. 3d

takatukiwi The path less followed. It's hard to capture the lush beauty and intense green of a NZ native forest when you're off the beaten track. Taken at about 800m altitude in the northern part of the Kaimanawa Forest Park. 3d

takatukiwi In the firing line. We have a "family tradition" of a round of mini-golf whenever we're in Taupo. I won this time - just saying! 4d

takatukiwi Some sheep! Clothes shop and honey centre in Tirau in the form of a giant corrugated iron sheep. Just next door is the visitor information centre - a giant corrugated iron sheepdog! 6d

takatukiwi Reflection imperfection. Ducks cause ripples, ripples ruin reflections... but hey, it's their pond not mine so I can live with that! 1w

takatukiwi Ebb and flow. I love how the mist flows back and forth with the air currents in the morning. This is about 3/4 hour in real time compressed into a 15s IG video-bite! 1w

takatukiwi Concentration! I'm taking Tess's portrait at the beach, she's watching the kids climbing on the rocks behind me! 2w
  •   drs444 Andrew, thanks for asking. The past few weeks have been crazy. But, all is moving in the right direction. Koda leaves in two weeks for gun/bird introductory training with a fine trainer here in Minnesota. It'll be fun to have Kida get in a full season before his 1st birthday. Helps set the stage for great season the following year. But he's always be my companion 325+ days a year. He's already quite a pal. (Kind of a daddy's boy, too.) And Griz seems to like having Koda around - most of the time. The little guy can be a bit of a terrorist. 2w
  •   takatukiwi @drs444 Glad to hear things are going ok. My dream is to have another dog but I'll have to wait a couple years for that - it took a bit of persuading to get domestic approval for Tess in the first place! I've had a couple of sessions with a trainer here but we don't have the live-in options that you have over there. Still her retrieving is going great and she's showing good style and discipline when quartering too. For my first dog I'm pretty pleased! 2w
  •   drs444 Griz is my first dog. Never hunted anything in my life. Learned to shoot skeet - the gateway drug to pheasants. After one pheasant hunt I was hooked. Next came Grizzly. All this almost a half century in the making. First waterfowl hunt this past season. That was magic. Quartering will get tighter as your girl gets more experience. Sounds like the two of your on your way. 2w
  •   takatukiwi @drs444 Skeet the gateway drug - love that! I used to beat for the local syndicate driven pheasant shoot when I was a kid in Yorkshire UK but bit wasn't until a few years ago that I got my licence and started shooting here in NZ. Duck season has finished in my region, but I've still got another month or so left of pheasant season so I'm going to see if I can get Tess ready in time. 2w
