rachelcaptivated You know it's a busy day in the office when my little 4yr old Tanzanian friend sits down at @theamazingteetee 's desk with his hood on, stationed by the phone with his plastic hammer nearby! 2d

rachelcaptivated Tonight I got to go to the Impetus youth awards- highlights included chocolate mousse and getting the mayor to hug me Instead of the standard handshake. So inspired by the amazing young people I met, really spurred on to advocate to fill the gap of mental health awareness and spirituality in our community. Thanks @anna_howlett and @jessicamorris47 for making me feel really, really special. #shamelessselfie 6d

rachelcaptivated Hope has dropped his anchor in our backyards. He's inviting us to grab ahold of it so we can do the seemingly impossible and make our way through the stormy darkness all around us. Hope has found us and he has made the way so we can oneday tell the story of how our perseverance made us stronger, how holding onto this anchor taught us who we really are. How hope gave us life. 1w

rachelcaptivated Last week I decided to place a bunch of flowers in the main reception at the refugee settlement agency, instead of just putting some on my desk in the back office. Since I began my placement I formed a habit of getting an inexpensive bunch of flowers from the grocers across the road and sitting them in front of me. The reason? Flowers remind me that beauty is all around me, that even in the most barren of places, life can grow. Flowers remind me that hope is just around the corner and he is knocking on my door. I would often find myself staring at my little beacon of light throughout long days in the office, it reminded me that the little things count. In my sadness at my inability to really change the situations of the beautiful souls I am meeting everyday, I resigned myself to the fact that my little attempt of sunshine amidst an ever present storm would be my gift to those I meet. I did not think it would do much, but ever since that beautiful bouquet graced the shelf by the reception desk I have noticed a change. People started going up to the flowers and touching them, smelling them, they sit in their chairs waiting for good news but knowing it will most probably not come- but they stare at these flowers and smile. The receptionist was in awe, she told me that people could not stop marvelling at this small sign of life. The staff were confused, at my odd habit of buying these flowers, but after awhile, try started enjoying them too. No longer are they surprised at a new addition of greenery, they too marvel at the simple beauty before them. And so- this week I got another little posy of flowers, bright and colourful, green and strong; and as I poured water in the vase and as I sorted the dead blooms from the buds beginning to sprout, I prayed. I prayed that this sign of life would give all those who saw it hope. That this somewhat laughable attempt at creating beauty would make someone smile, another one laugh and another one breath in deeply. Because everyone deserves hope. 1w

rachelcaptivated Someone walked into the office and said to me, "I like your flowers." I told her that was probably the best thing anyone i'd never met before could tell me. Now we are friends. #friendslikeeachothersflowers 👭 2w
