pketron I spotted a mini orange torii in Kyoto this afternoon.
My last few days in Japan have been with a tour group that I've joined with my mother. There are few things more frustrating to a photographer than relinquishing control over one's photo schedule while in such beautiful environs. I've been on a fast-paced, see as much as you can, jump off the bus to take a photo and then get back on, shoot during the ugliest light in the day kind of schedule. Not exactly ideal. I fly to my next destination tomorrow, so I guess that means I'll just have to come back to Japan again before too long to shoot it properly. My previous visit was before Instagram existed so we all know that means it didn't actually happen.

pketron View from the 45th floor observation deck. One of the buildings visible reminds me of the Grace Building in NYC and another reminds me of the Gherkin in London. 3d

pketron I first met @focus_pocus_org on LiveJournal (I'm not ashamed) back in 2003 when we were active in the same photography communities. We had the pleasure of meeting in person for the first time in the fall of 2012 when I visited Dublin where he and @knittingneels live. I was pleasantly surprised when he pinged me after seeing that I was in Tokyo, saying that they were also visiting. It's fun to see familiar faces completely by chance halfway around the world from where they're expected. 4d

pketron I hadn't really had proper hangs with this guy since NYC. I'm glad we had a chance to connect here in Tokyo - and on his birthday, too! Happy birthday, @hirozzzz! 5d

pketron Current location: Tokyo.

I knew I couldn't come to Tokyo without seeing this incredible space. It was designed to look like a ship! Also, so happy to have spent time with @heyreese @focus_pocus_org @knittingneels and @hirozzzz during various parts of my day today. It's a wonderful thing to have friends all over the world.

pketron One of the slow-mo videos from that afternoon in Bora Bora that I mentioned before. These aren't the most skilled divers but they certainly have fun. 6d

pketron Fish attack! There are two men in amongst this mess. It's not really an attack, just a bit of a feeding frenzy.

Thanks for following along and leaving such nice comments. I've been working with roughly 20 minutes of slow wifi per day and am so behind on responding to comments and looking at other people's photos. Off to my next destination and hope to catch up soon!

pketron I swam with sharks today! I even flipped over and did a selfie with a shark, which I accidentally deleted while I had wet, slippery fingers. On the plus side, I got a few cool videos, which I'm slowly posting on Saga. Check the link in my profile if you're interested. They may take a while to show up as I'm working with very limited wifi here.

pketron I did some drift snorkeling (as part of a guided tour) in what were probably stronger currents than could be safely navigated and came out of the experience a bit bloodied after having been thrown against some coral. Not the most pleasant experience of the trip, but certainly one of the most gorgeous locations. For those wondering, our guide said that those over-water bungalows run $1200 US per night. 1w

pketron From afar, I saw these kids jumping into the water and I rushed over to see if they would let me take some photos of them. They agreed, so I perched myself on a giant rusty chain on the edge of the pier, half in and half out of the water, taking photos and making slow-mo videos of their jumps. They asked if they could take my phone under water to take some photos of each other (I let them), asked to have their photos taken with me (I obliged), and as I departed, one girl asked if I was on Facebook. We exchanged names (written in permanent marker on each other's forearm, naturally) and said goodbye.
