nicolajdodd Tagged last night by the lovely @claireybelle51 #widn is wondering around the garden in my pyjamas, wellies and anorak (as you do...) admiring all the new growth, ignoring the weeds and having a bit of a think about what needs doing... 5d

nicolajdodd Tagged by the lovely @messyjesse1 #widrn is throwing open the windows and speedily shutting them again, as our local farmer has chosen this glorious day to do some muck-spreading. Ah, the joys of country life... If they have time, I'd love to know what @sewlayers @carolcabbagerose and @alexouq are up to 6d

nicolajdodd A little something I've found useful: having cut out my template (and stuck on the back of an empty cereal packet in true 'Blue Peter' fashion) I've cut all the little wedge shapes with one straight side running with the grain, making sure that this is on top when I sew them together, to reduce stretching... 1w
  •   thebarnhound I am all fingers & thumbs when it comes to sewing of any kind - but love your quilting posts as it emphasises how much work goes into each beautiful item. Love that pin cushion too... 1w
  •   lynnyfay Just stunning 1w
  •   nicolajdodd It's from Liberty @thebarnhound my favourite shop! And thank you xx 1w
  •   nicolajdodd Thank you @lynnyfay 1w
  •   brodysews @nicolajdodd love following your progress! Are you using charm squares and fat eighths? 6d
  •   nicolajdodd Thank you @brodysews I used a couple of charm packs and fat quarters for these first test blocks, but I'm really liking the pattern so it's time *gasp* to break out my treasured Strawberry Fields stash!! x 6d
  •   brodysews @nhcarroll strawberry fields is going to be so beautiful! These colors are lovely too ️I was actually thinking about using some mirabelle charms with marmalade fat eighths. 5d
  •   nicolajdodd Ooh, Mirabelle and Marmalade will look gorgeous together @brodysews xx 5d

nicolajdodd The Brolly Quilt is finished! Inspired by @bonniecottonway and @thimbleblossoms beautiful April Showers fabric, made possible by @figtreeandco s brilliant Dresden technique with a layout stolen shamelessly from @laundrybasketquilts Dancing Umbrellas. Now, what was I meant to be doing... 2w
  •   nicolajdodd Thank you @robynfoxlane I really love making quilts for babies! Maybe you could try a couple of blocks for a cushion and see how it goes? I'm writing a pattern (and have developed amazing respect for my favourite designers: it's quite tricky!) and would love to send you one when it's ready. And I'll definitely be ordering more April Showers, it's gorgeous to sew with xx 2w
  •   carolcabbagerose Love this. Xxxx 2w
  •   nicolajdodd Thank you @carolcabbagerose 2w
  •   robynfoxlane Oh wow I'm so happy to hear you are working on a pattern! I'd love one & happy to pay you to post. I will be in UK late may & all of June staying with my daughter in London. If you've finished it it can be posted there. But maybe it will take you a bit longer! Then it can travel down under ! And maybe it can be my project next year ! And I'll think about a cushion too! 2w
  •   thelittlepaintedmouse Wow !!!! That is just lovely, you are very clever xx 2w

  •   nicolajdodd I love hand quilting @lisaleb28 I learnt from Tone Finnanger's 'So Pretty Homestyle' which just calls for a fairly large, but even running stitch. I find it's pretty fast xx 2w
  •   ytabbott You are fast @nicolajdodd! Beautiful, can't wait to see the quilted and bound quilt! Xx 2w
  •   shulbert255 It's beautiful @nicolajdodd does the book teach you where to mark then sew your quilt? I signed up for a class on Craftsy, but so far it hasn't been relevant 2w
  •   janchuter Lovely 2w
  •   nicolajdodd Revision supervision and quilting definitely go together! @ytabbott I think I'm going to get a lot done this holiday!! xx 2w
  •   nicolajdodd The book suggests that you stitch along the seams (stitch in the ditch) then about 1/2" away to outline the block @shulbert255 I found 1/2" too great a distance on traditional blocks so I use the 1/4" line on my ruler, marking with one of those nifty water-soluble pens (those are the blue lines you can see over my quilt). Hope that helps xx 2w
  •   nicolajdodd Thank you @janchuter 2w
  •   shulbert255 Thank you @nicolajdodd maybe I'll practice on a small project doesn't look like you do the weird needle rocking thing with the thimble 2w
