  •   styleanthem @marcuskino what if brown rice is used? 5d
  •   gypsyrawsta I think it depends where and how the sushi is made as in the types of ingredients used. I think most places differ around the world. I've eaten it in many countries as well as in Japan, I make my own and have friends who are sushi chefs as well and I've never heard of cups of white sugar being added. The only sweetener I've known to be added is mirin (a sweet fermented rice wine, not a refined sugar) and rice vinegar which is pure and never with high fructose corn syrup in it. I've never even seen that kind since the ones I've always used say 100% rice vinegar. I haven't heard about the added table salt either but I wouldn't doubt it since I know many places usually add MSG. I had read an article talking about the McDonald's comparison but it's usually when the roll contain mayonaisse, deep fried tempura and fatty seafood/fish. If you take out all that crap and stick to simple veggie rolls without mayo I'm pretty sure the caloric comparison lowers. But thanks for sharing, we always have to be aware of what goes into our food no matter where we eat in the world even if it's just a cucumber roll. And I think the whole debate of white rice vs.brown rice will never end since people have been eating it for over 100yrs and "new studies" show brown rice is actually arcenic so maybe we'll just never know @marcuskino @styleanthem 5d
  •   marcuskino @gypsyrawsta @styleanthem yes that's right brown rice can have more arsenic than white rice, i wouldn't recommend any rice at all and just fill your nori with raw fruit and vegetables. But of course if rice is necessary then certified organic will be better. Here in Australia you would be hard pressed to find a sushi bar that doesn't use sugar in their sushi rice, but as you said that may differ from country to country. 5d

  •   gypsyrawsta Lol I love my rice though. I make nori rolls with only veggies too but for me sushi's not the same without the rice. Of course I always use organic rice at home and if I eat out which I rarely do anyways, I go to places I know and trust will use high quality stuff. That's interesting and good to know about Australia's way of doing it. I have some family out there and might be visiting so I'm looking forward to trying out your sushi bars @marcuskino 4d

I just got back from an 801010 festival and saw Doug and Rosalind Graham's daughter, who is probably the most beautiful free spirit I have ever seen. I never thought that i would ever want to have a child, but seeinh 801010 kids brings hope to my world. To the outer world that we share as well. You are such an inspiration @lonijane 1d

  •   earthmama2four Usually 4 months is a bit of a fussy stage I find and I thought teething but first two were nearly 9 months before tooth and 3rd was 6 months and 4th was near 7 months...amber necklace seemed to prevent dribbling mostly too. New developmental stage as well can cause some fussiness x @lonijane 2w
