kweese96 This is the stuff I live for, folks. If you're passionate about something -- no matter what it is -- have your voice heard. And to my peers who stand beside me in this magnificent new atheist movement, never lose hope, and never underestimate the power of your words. It may seem like you'll never change anyone's mind, but remember, almost all of us had our minds changed with the help of brave freethinkers who believed in us. Now it's our turn.

kweese96 Just because I can finally tag @staceylh32 in an instagram picture Teachers are the unspoken heroes in the world, and every once and a while, a teacher comes along that drastically changes your life. Mr. Coudret and Ms. Hallowes, the two of you are more than teachers. You are mentors, friends, inspirations, and -- most importantly -- open hearts and open minds. Thank you. #graduation #2014 1mon

kweese96 #sexist #dresscodes are unacceptable. If boys are distracted by thighs and shoulders, then we've got to address that as the problem, not the clothes. 2mon
  •   rjb.pdf YES 2mon
  •   br0wneyed_babe Amen! 2mon
  •   destinyallton OMG YES 2mon
  •   chase_the_1truth I agree and disagree ya the same time. I teach at a middle school and I think some dress code rules are a bit too much. I don't think kinda short shorts or spaghetti strap tops are bad. However, I am a supporter for keeping your underwear under your clothes... That's why they're underwear. A proper school should be teaching kids and preparing them for a professional environment. When boys and girls are more focused on drawing attention to their genitals than doing their school work, it's a problem. I don't just tell girls to keep their underwear and bras from showing, I tell guys to do the same. I've given plenty of detentions to guys for sagging or lifting their shirts over their heads. School isn't an anatomy exhibit. Do that after school with your friends. When you're at school, focus on your work. Sorry for the mini rant. Just wanted to show a side for dress code that may make sense... Kind of a "time and place" scenario in my mind. 2mon
  •   kweese96 @chase_the_1truth well of course nobody's advocating for nudist public schools. Of course students should be taught professionalism, but girls shouldn't be punished -- which they often are -- simply for their anatomy. By that, I mean more often than that, more physically mature girls or girls with curves are held to different standards than others because they may be a distraction. If a high school boy isn't capable of seeing a leg, or an arm, or a back, and not be able to focus in class, then our public school system has failed in that regard. We teach girls from such a young age that they can only express themselves until their expresses catches the eye of a prepubescent boy, and then she has to conform to what's best for the boy and that's wrong. 2mon
  •   chase_the_1truth Like I said, I agree and disagree. Boys should learn to control themselves, but that's not just the school failing, that's their home life. I personally know that some of these kids are just wearing things that happen to fall under dress code while a few others are intentionally trying to get attention from boys or girls. It all falls back to "time and place". If I'm playing basketball or football, I'm fine wearing a cut off sleeveless shirt that exposes from my armpit to my hips or shorts. If I'm swimming, I can wear a speedo that really shows off my butt and junk. If I'm in a school, I need to be dressed in a way that is conducive to a professional and educational environment. I don't need to try to make a statement or get girls to check out my body. Some kids wear clothes that happen to show their body types.. Long legs or large breasts... It's sometimes hard to find clothes that fit the dress code for certain people. The problem is when people intentionally break the rules to get attention. You wouldn't expect your manager to ask you to change if you showed up to work in something that didn't fit their dress code. School should be no different. I usually give warnings and ask people to change or something. We have extra clothes where I teach for people who don't have something else to wear (and the fact that 3 out of 4 kids that get dress coded here have a change of clothes in their backpack shows you that they are doing it intentionally). We don't send kids home but we expect them to follow the rules in the rule book they signed before school started. There are other schools with more lenient dress codes... We just happen to have higher test scores. 2mon
