jenny_mitchell Her music teacher told her yesterday that she would faint if that tooth came out in her class, and when I picked her up from school she said with that tooth dangling out the front of her mouth, "well. It didn't come out. I guess I'll just have to wait till next week!" Because what kid doesn't want to make their music teacher fall off the piano bench???!! anyhow, that tooth had a different plan and today during lunch was it. When I picked her up today, she came skipping down the sidewalk towards the car and shot me the most awesome grin. And then *I* almost fainted. 1h

jenny_mitchell I just tapped out a giant screen of text and it went poof. Some follow up thoughts on sponsorships and blogging in 3, 2, 1... 6d
  •   thriftsimply Thanks for your honesty. I enjoyed reading everything and I also have followed you for many many years now - one of first blogs I found Its interesting to read all this especially as I work for a 'crafty' type company and specifically work with blog affiliates - so this is my gig anyway - just wanted to say I really appreciated this, as a longtime reader. 6d
  •   aelepants I wish I did something neato for your blog. If you ever need a post about the exciting world of ESL education, I'm yer gal! Ha! (But really, you're the coolest ever. I like your style as a human) 6d
  •   beckyecalvert this @jenny_mitchell. Also, I'm totally emailing you about my latest project. 6d
  •   tippics I love the idea if mutual collaboration so being on your blog & your blog on ours. Let me know if I should contact you & how! :-) we've been struggling with this sponsorship stuff ourselves. It's a tricky thing to navigate. 5d
  •   tippics Oh I also wanted to add that it is indeed quote difficult to make a living from blogging so I guess that some bloggers are making the choice to go down the sponsored post route ... It's a choice & if that works for them then good for them. We have the choice of whether or not to continue reading their blogs. And we need to go with what works for us at the end of the day. If some of our readers don't understand the challenges we face & choices we have to make then so be it. Live & let live & help the folk who's work we love or respect. OK. Enough from me! Happy Easter! XO 5d
  •   rubyellenbratcher Catching up here. Jenny you said everything quite tactfully and as a blogger who works with sponsors (large companies and small indie ones), I'm not offended at all by anything you said here. It's always good to think through these sorts or things no matter what side of the fence you're on. 5d
  •   lishylooetsy Collaborations that make sense, I get it, I feel it. It's such a new medium, I mean 15 years ago I may have just been daft but I couldn't imagine the LJ rantings being paid for! Ha! That being said, sponsor lishyloo. I'm simultaneously jazzed about the new venture yet completely pooped out on selling vintage. Could be hormonal. I'm sorry this got personal for u jenny :( I didn't read into any one blog, I DID make a leap to whatever the hell the bedroom company is, see I've already forgotten. 5d
  •   lishylooetsy One more thing! I love the big bloggers that have the tiny ads for peeps like me!! I've paired up friends because of those and feel like they connect me with the right people! Like, I'm not going to get a baby gap shopper trying to figure out why they'd pay $15 for a "used dress." 5d

jenny_mitchell A bedroom makeover for my girl, (sponsored by no one). --- She chose a pale pink called Southern Beauty and after I rolled on that first bit, she clapped and jumped and said, "oh MAMA it's the most beautifulest thing I've ever seen"

Also? We're listening to the soundtrack from Frozen.

  •   katherine_jalaty @ameliapresents participating in this convo at all is pretty brave. i think we ALL have a lot more we could add! but sometimes restraint is necessary. 6d
  •   ameliapresents @katherine_jalaty agreed! Thanks!! 6d
  •   photowhim You are a breath of fresh air. Glad I found you! 6d
  •   moonstitches Thanks for starting this discussion. So refreshing. A big *like* for that!!! 6d
  •   drummbellina I love this conversation but it makes me sad that you have to feel "brave" and want to say more but feel you have to have restraint. Women are so scared of calling out other women on their bullshit. Look how much respect you've just earned for daring to say what you think! 5d
  •   katherine_jalaty @drummbellina i don't think anyone here is afraid of calling others out in bullshit. however, as business owners who have worked hard to build relationships there are times when restraint is necessary on certain platforms--especially when things are easily misinterpreted when read (as opposed to a face to face conversation). 5d
  •   megan_aileen I just read through this all, and am SO EXCITED to follow you! 5d
  •   ameliapresents @drummbellina I'm not too proud to say I'm not brave enough but does it really serve its purpose to point fingers? This conversation is about a bigger problem overall rather than petty finger pointing and calling bullshit. But like @katherine_jalaty said, as small business owners that have worked hard to build relationships, for myself with artists and bloggers alike, things can be so easily misinterpreted, which is where I'm not brave. I'm not brave enough to take that chance, to be misunderstood. 2d

  •   jenny_mitchell @wardomatic it's so funny - she's already got these little preferences. Paper thickness and spiral vs bound... She's got big plans to make a book! 1w
  •   shortformelissa I love her!!! What a cutie! 1w
  •   zup2u2 Have you seen the blank books with the white covers? Absolutely blank and perfect for the young author. My kids had those all the time in grade school for projects in their English classes. 1w
  •   jenny_mitchell @zup2u2 yes! I had a couple of those a while back - I wonder if they were big scrapbooks - she opted for big bound ones with black covers, very sophisticated! 1w
  •   msjulesy that outfit - she's the best 1w

  •   shooshoof I've long been thinking of doing stripes like that. similar colors, too! lovely! afraid mine would be crooked. 😕 1w
  •   jenny_mitchell @shooshoof girl that wall was a PITA! It's original wood paneling which I debated (for like, 6 years) on whether or not to paint) and then finally bit the bullet - had to do all white first, let it set and then came back and did a bunch of taping off & painted the different colored stripes. Colors inspired by vintage maps/globes. 1w
  •   shooshoof hahahaha. (I had to look up PITA. I am so not cool.) so, what you're saying is that you love it but it was a bitch to do. hmmm. I live in a nyc rental. I already have done things to it I shouldn't have. like my red-orange wall, for instance. hmmm. 1w
  •   birdapparel Love those ceilings! 1w
  •   jenny_mitchell @shooshoof haha too funny. Now you can use that expression all the time! As in, painting over that red wall is gonna be a total PITA. 1w
  •   jenny_mitchell @birdapparel thank you! A couple years ago we had a total weather disaster and had to replace the entire roof - ceiling and all. It was stressssssful but we are so happy with how things turned out! 1w
  •   birdapparel Oh dear, but it sure looks fabulous now. I may be back to ask how you did it. We are cottage hunting and I really want a ceiling like this in it! 1w
  •   shooshoof @jenny_mitchell, now I'm gonna walk around town all day going PITA PITA PITA. sometimes shouting, sometimes grumbling. (like, for instance, when I go to nj to be with my father who has Alzheimer's and he goes around shutting off all the lights, including those of the room I'm standing in. PITA!! (I know, that's not nice.) and, yes!!! those ceilings!!! I just love warm wood like that being part of the design of the room. I always did kinda want to live in a ski lodge. (I don't ski.) 1w
