insufferablevegan This is the veggie burger from Hugo's Tacos on Coldwater. It's good but if you don't eat honey you need to tell them because this is marked "vegan as is" on the menu yet it comes with a honey chipotle sauce and also some kind of honey spread on the buns. It was so beef-like I went back to have them look at it and make sure it was the veggie one. It was. Really good. #vegan 3h

insufferablevegan This is the vegan version of the Torta Ahogada at Hugo's Tacos on Coldwater. "Mexican sandwich roll layered with organic white beans, guacamole, tomato, onions ahogada, Vegenaise and soy chorizo." But if you don't eat honey then you have to tell them that because Hugo's thinks honey is vegan and the buns are dipped in honey and they also put honey chipotle on it. This was good but not really great. #vegan 3h

insufferablevegan Frozato vegan soft serve from Hugo's Tacos on Coldwater. It was gritty and the kind of freezing cold temperature that gives brain freeze, but it was still pretty good. #vegan 4h

insufferablevegan I usually don't like the Whole Foods "vegan old fashioned chicken salad" that they make with Beyond Meat but the one at their Coldwater Canyon store was good. Here it is on the best bagel in LA -- Bueller's Bagels on Olympic & Westwood in the Bigg Chill strip mall. #vegan 4h
  •   losvegangeles Yeah I liked this before they started making it with Beyond Meat. And the curried chicken salad too. It's almost too firm now. 4h
  •   leslieconn Why don't they cut it up? If you get a chicken salad sandwich at a Jewish deli (real chicken), they cut it up! 4h
  •   insufferablevegan @leslieconn Some Whole Foods do. It's a free for all. 3h
  •   leslieconn If they searched the entire internet for chicken salad recipes, every one would say to dice or shred the chicken. Are there no chefs working there? Smh. 😕 1h

insufferablevegan New superfood truffle from Real Food Daily. It wasn't good, and even worse, the guy at the counter told me it replaced their delicious chocolate truffle that they've had for a million years! And when I asked for how long, he said for the foreseeable future! Why, @officialrfd, why?! #vegan 4h
  •   power_cut Ugh they always make dumb moves 4h
  •   power_cut I remember like 10 years ago when they had the BEST cakes, then their pastry chef changed and the frosting is so gross. 4h
  •   misskerry333 I know I loved the old truffle so much 4h
  •   insufferablevegan @power_cut To me, the place has had a weird vibe for the past few years. 15 years ago, when they had just one restaurant, it was always a pleasant experience. Now service is often weird and food often nothing special. I don't think they realize it, but they give off a vibe of being outdated compared to what other places are doing with vegan food these days. 4h
  •   power_cut Agreed!!! 4h

insufferablevegan Chocolate peanut butter cup from Real Food Daily. I didn't like it. #vegan 4h
  •   jennaohale I love RFD for their brunch but I haven't been a fan of any of their sweet treats so far. I stopped trying them. 4h
  •   insufferablevegan @jennaohale I really liked the Yule Log they do around Christmas. 3h

insufferablevegan Some treats that @specialneedseater brought me back from her pilgrimage to @VeganTreats! A whoopie pie (this was my favorite), some Twix-like bars (also really good), and a Cowboy Cookie that was YDR! (yum despite raisins). I also got a shirt! #vegan 1d

insufferablevegan Here's what the inside of the new @FieldRoast burger package looks like after I removed the four patties. Each patty has 340 calories and 40 percent of your day's sat fat and 37 percent of its total fat. #vegan 1d

insufferablevegan Tried the new Field Roast burger. Followed the instructions but it wasn't as good as when I tried it at the @FieldRoast booth at the Natural Products Expo in March. One patty has 340 calories and 40 percent of your day's sat fat and 37 percent of its total fat. #vegan 1d

insufferablevegan This is the tofu saltado at Un Solo Sol Kitchen on 1st St in Boyle Heights. "Tofu tossed with tomato, red and yellow bell peppers, onions and homemade French fries." That's right, the fries come mixed right in. I liked this a lot. There are lots of good vegan choices here. 1d

insufferablevegan Tacos at Un Solo Sol Kitchen on 1st St in Boyle Heights. The one in the foreground is a "Mixed Vegetable Taco" -- black beans, sweet corn, green beans and peas. The one in the background was a "Nopalitos, Mushrooms and Spinach Taco." The mixed vegetable one was good and the nopalitos one was really good. #vegan 1d

insufferablevegan These are the potato taquitos at Un Solo Sol Kitchen on 1st St in Boyle Heights. They were very good and I double-checked and was told the salad dressing is vegan. 1d

insufferablevegan Look a vegan video! Green Pozole at Un Solo Sol on 1st St in Boyle Heights! Tons of vegan options and really good food! #vegan 1d
  •   veggiealchemy Wish i liked the food there. 1d
  •   insufferablevegan @veggiealchemy They told us we couldn't get pupusas today because there was a different cook. Maybe this one was better than the regular one? Or are restaurant kitchens all about the recipes and a different cook shouldn't make a difference? 1d
  •   veggiealchemy Food should be consistent. There should be a standard recipe, although every cook brings something different to the dish regardless of how closely they follow a recipe. It's strange how that works. But either way, unless they were out of vegan ingredients, who cooks it should be irrelevant. 1d
  •   insufferablevegan @veggiealchemy Thanks for explaining! 1d

insufferablevegan Acting on a tip from @specialneedseater I got one of these at Whole Foods and they were good! I think it was even yeast not cake but I flub that guess all the time so don't quote me. I still don't even know which one's Luke Perry and which one's Jason Priestley. #vegan 2d

insufferablevegan This is the new "Milanesa Club" from the "R&D Kitchen" menu at Native Foods in Culver City. This is a disgrace. How can a restaurant with a professional chef serve me cold, unmelted Daiya shreds on what's supposed to be a fake chicken parm sandwich? I mean, really? The description reads: "Spicy breaded Native Chicken topped with marinara sauce, shredded mozzarella, pumpkin seed pesto, and basil, sandwiched between an herbed ciabatta roll." Wait a second -- "sandwiched between"? Whatever happened to "on"? This is one of the first Native Foods items where I ever thought: I could make this at home very easily and it would be way better. And since I'm pretty sure this item is also made of gardein, do we really need a Daiya and gardein item from Native Foods? Doesn't it seem like they're moving in the wrong direction? Is this what happens when you have a meat-eating owner and chef? I'd skip this item if I were you. A total fail. #vegan 2d
  •   staciewaleyko Yuck! I guess that's why it's a test kitchen 2d
  •   10ftdoll That is so disappointing. I agree that they're going backwards. I've always liked Native Foods a little better than Veggie Grill because they made everything in house. If they're going this route, I'm not sure I would go out of my way to visit them anymore. 2d
  •   losvegangeles Ha! @insufferablevegan We had the same experience today as well, must've just missed you. Did your (unmelted) food take forever too? 2d
  •   leslieconn I can't stand unmelted Daiya. I see people eat it like that though! 2d
  •   insufferablevegan @losvegangeles Not too bad but my first R&D visit yes, though it was packed that time. 2d
  •   specialneedseater I miss Chef Tanya. 1d
  •   harshtruthofthecameraeye I had the same experience yesterday with that item got lunch with @sarahvegan and was stoked to try that sandwich. Came out cold and the cheese wasn't melted either. Def could have made a better version at home. Also I noticed they're charging $2.95 for sweet potato fries there which I asked if there had been a price increase and the cashier told they've always been that price. Just got lunch at the Costa Mesa location and sweet potato fries were only $1.95 upgrade . Not sure why the price points are different 1d
  •   insufferablevegan @harshtruthofthecameraeye Yeah they moved the sweet potato fries to the "premium sides" list. Boo! 3h
