igerssv Repost for IGersEastBay: Join @igerseastbay for a photo walk around Oakland's Lake Merritt for Oaklavia/Love Our Lake Day on Sunday, June 9. Co-sponsored by Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO) and the City of Oakland, Oaklavia is a free public event that invites families and visitors around the Bay Area to come out and play, stroll, bike, and paddle at Lake Merritt. Oaklavía will close three miles of streets circumnavigating Lake Merritt to car traffic, allowing participants to experience what a people- and community-centered urban space can feel like when our built environment is committed to safe and accessible places to walk and to bike. Salsa dancing, belly dancing, Taiko drumming, martial arts performances, sports games, free bike rentals, bike rodeo and hula hooping are just a few of the many activities available to watch or experience.

We'll meet in front of the Oakland Museum of California (1000 Oak St, one block away from Lake Merritt BART) at noon then head out and explore all of the sights and sounds Oaklavia has to offer. Due to road closures and the car-less theme of the event, public transportation is strongly encouraged! igerssv Repost for @igerseastbay : Join us for a photo walk around the Albany Bulb on Sunday, March 17 at 11 am. A former landfill that has evolved into an urban oasis full of graffiti art, murals and sculpture with beautiful bay views, the Bulb is a longtime favorite spot of urban hikers, plant lovers, dog walkers and of course, photographers. The terrain can be rocky in parts and it's often quite windy, so make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring layers. After the walk, we'll raise a glass in celebration of St Patrick's Day at the Pyramid Ale House in Berkeley (a short drive away). The Bulb is located at 1 Buchanan St in Albany, right behind Golden Gate Fields. If you're planning to make it, please leave a comment below so we can get a rough head count. igerssv Have you ever dreamt of having your mobile photography images hanging in a local art gallery? Here's your opportunity to make that dream a reality! The Adobe Art Center in Hayward is now accepting entries for Talking Eye, a juried cell phone exhibit. -Winning entries (apx. 50-60) will be:
–PRINTED and EXHIBITED at the Adobe Art Gallery (April 6 – May 11).
–Awards of Merit will be announced at the reception, April 13, 2013
–PUBLISHED in an exhibit catalog for sale online and at the gallery.
–PUBLISHED online.

Entries due: March 9, 2013
Exhibit dates: April 6 – May 11, 2013
Reception: Saturday, April 13, 2013 – 2-4pm

The gallery will also be hosting a free iPhoneography demonstration with Robert Kato and Cathy Cakebread of iPhonecreativity on Saturday, March 2 from 1-2:30 pm. A more in-depth workshop is in the works for a future date.

igerssv Repost for @igerseastbay : Honor your loved ones and explore the rich culture of Oakland's Fruitvale district as we celebrate Dia de Los Muertos. The event launches at the Fruitvale Village, adjacent to the Fruitvale BART stop. We'll meet at Powderface Bakery at 3411 E 12th Street at 11:00 am for coffee and beignets before heading out to the streets to capture this vibrant celebration of life and transition. There will be altars and offerings for the dearly departed, music and dancers too. Fair warning, this event is quite popular and may be somewhat crowded. Parking may be difficult so we strongly recommend taking public transportation to this event. We look forward to seeing you there! 8mon
