Normal GOAL ZERO
goalzero Life out here in the rural reaches of the Navajo Nation has its difficulties. Long drives on rugged roads that become impassable with rain and snow, no running water, and no electricity might make you wonder why they choose to live here. A deep love of the land, a rich tradition and heritage make them proud to call this place home. #navajosolar 1w

goalzero Wilbert Yazzi, a resident of Monument Valley and former bull riding champion. In his younger years he moved away from the reservation for work but dreamed of retiring and moving home. Now blind from diabetes he is home on the land he loves. We were honored to be invited into he and his mother's home. #navajosolar 1w
  •   ferezo Great work @goalzero-it's sad to see the Native Americans still suffer because of the greed of the " new world " . They been the keeper of this land for thousands of years , and they deserve better 1w
  •   fuscia This is so awesome 1w

goalzero @alexhonnold and @cedarwright wrapped up their mission to bike to and climb 40+ desert towers by installing solar panels on rural Navajo homes. #Sufferfest2 is officially over. Nice work fellas! What a way to end it! 1w

goalzero It is easy to understand why people live and stay here. Wrapping up the day by installing solar panels on a hogan beneath one of the mighty Mittens. #navajosolar 1w

goalzero Helen Salazar sits down to weave under a solar powered light-a-life in her Hogan. Before, if she wanted to work into the night she would use a kerosene lantern which could cause health problems. #navajosolar 1w

goalzero This is what most people use for light here on the Navajo Nation. Kerosene lanterns. According to the Health Protection Agency chronic exposure to kerosene can cause respiratory irritation, restlessness, irritability, ataxia, drowsiness, convulsions, coma and death. The most common health effect associated with chronic kerosene exposure is dermatitis. #navajosolar 1w
  •   kelvinchingz Health versus Goalzero lamp pricetag....which is priceless? Money can't buy back those lost lifespan 1w
  •   sonsinijw @goalzero it's not kerosene period. It's a Coleman fuel or dual-fuel gasoline lantern, I own several....stop promoting the good you do, that's called kidding your own butt, not humble. 1w
  •   sonsinijw @scottd9000 Scott, they gotta stop trying to pretend that we are going to not use gas at all.....those ridiculous, it's noble to mix and use alternatives ....but #goalzero is being disrespectful to the pioneers of camp and survival light. Batteries are unhealthy and bad fir disposal but Coleman isn't pooping on them. 1w
  •   fuscia Pooping? but seriously, batteries can be recycled, so your argument is weak 1w
  •   fuscia Also, in reality, we all need to reduce our usage of electricity no matter what our power source. But how? I'm so addicted! 1w
  •   manueljulianobando You don't need to say others are bad to say you are good. 1w
  •   goalzero We mean no disrespect. Different gas lanterns are used as the sole source of light in many homes on the Navajo Nation. Long term exposure to fumes is a cause for concern. @elephantenergy works to help with the energy issues on the reservation and we are proud to be part of this project. Also, this is about providing power to those who need and want it. 1w
  •   neenaearl @manueljulianobando @sonsinijw I'm pretty sure goal zero is talking about CHRONIC exposure to kerosene and did not make one mention of a specific company or lamp. #facts 1w

Normal GOAL ZERO

  •   redbullslc Did they get someone to let them climb shiprock? 2w
  •   smileysproject oohhh biking to the forbidden fruit I see. What a cool climb. 2w
  •   missuknowho @redbullslc No, it has been climbed several times by professionals, but at present the Navajo Nation refuses permission to everyone desiring to scale it's height, no matter how skilled and experienced. Several deaths have occurred during attempts to ascent it. The peak is to be admired and photographed, but it must not be climbed. Hiking and climbing on the sacred peak is forbidden. I know this because, I'm from Shiprock, NM and a member of the Navajo Nation. I also work for @goalzero and I Love it! 1w
