flyhoof Another new collection: my dad gave me the little china houses that he and his brother collected as boys. They're all tourist attractions that they visited as children and I'd love to find out which they are (he couldn't remember any of them!) 7d

flyhoof I've wanted to see snakes head fritillaries for years and yesterday came across hundreds on a visit to Levens Hall. It was worth the wait! :) 7d

flyhoof I've inherited a gorgeous collection of glass paperweights from my grandma. This is one of my favourites :) Tagged to share #widn by @blueberryathome - I'm trying to photograph my new collection but it's not as sunny here as it is with you Karen! 1w
  •   blueberryathome Ooh how pretty...the sun has disappeared again...hopefully be back later x 1w
  •   flyhoof @blueberryathome the sun's out here now! There must only be a certain amount to go round today and we'll end up sharing it over the course of the day :D 1w

flyhoof Two pairs of Liberty and linen cushions for gifts. One set is hourglass blocks and the other is half-square triangles, all cut as quarter-square triangles from one set of squares. I've even confused myself with that last sentence... 1w

flyhoof Got some Grasmere gingerbread from my lovely mum today. I really like the grease proof paper wrapping, all carefully folded and fastened with a rubber band :) 2w
  •   flyhoof @lauranemma ha! That is dangerous! It's good stuff, although controversially I do prefer the Lakeland gingerbread from the Apple Pie bakery in Ambleside... 2w
  •   machenundtun I know grasmere only from a smiths song :-) 1w
  •   flyhoof @machenundtun ha! It's a good Smiths song too! :D 1w
  •   carbonsoup Ha! I just saw grasmere on the telly a couple days back! 1w
  •   flyhoof @carbonsoup ooh, well spotted! Was it for anything good? Grasmere's main attractions (apart from gingerbread) are one of Wordsworth's cottages (there are others locally) and a summer sports event featuring Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, which is an odd sport. Men (and sometimes women) grappling whilst wearing vests and white long-johns with embroidered velvet knickers over the top of them! 1w
  •   carbonsoup It was for Escape to the Country, I think. It's rather a lovely little town!!! I do love English towns. They're very sweet and usually so very interesting :) 1w
  •   verykerryberry Love that gingerbread- to an obsessive level- the spicey topping! 1w
  •   flyhoof @verykerryberry yes! It's a spiciness that creeps up on you too. You don't realise it's there until you've had a slice or three! 1w

flyhoof Breaking into my box of fancy raspberry shortbread from Scotland this afternoon... 2w
  •   jorobexeter Ooo I'm going to be all about the fancy Scottish shortbread this week! 2w
  •   flyhoof @jorobexeter brilliant! I went in two Walkers shops while I was there and got a bit carried away when confronted by a whole shop full of shortbread! Have a lovely time up north! :) 2w
  •   jorobexeter @flyhoof oh my! I might have to keep control of myself. 😛 2w
  •   lovestrawberrypatch @jorobexeter I'll gladly help you out of you happen to bring too much back ;-) 2w
  •   nickoswright They even have Celtic decal. You can take my shortbread but you can never take my freedom. #AngryShortbread 2w

flyhoof I'M KNITTING A SOCK!!! :D 2w
  •   flyhoof @mmzpaul thanks for the encouragement! It's going ok so far but I'll think of your positive words when I get to the heel! :D 2w
  •   flyhoof @anyonecanquilt thank you! :D The yarn is definitely helping! So glad I finally took the plunge. Your lovely socks have been inspiring me for so long :) 2w
  •   mmzpaul What kind of heel are you doing? A gusset is the same increase as the toe, but you just do it on the bottom of the foot! The only different thing you would do is when you do the back and forth decreases. 2w
  •   flyhoof @mmzpaul I'm going to try a fish lips kiss heel, since people rave about it and it's supposed to be relatively easy. The method you describe sounds sensible though. I'll see how I get on, hopefully there'll be more socks in my future and I'll try out a few different heels :) 2w
  •   verysarie So cute! I've always wanted to knit a sock- first I have to learn how to knit 2w
  •   flyhoof @verysarie thanks! :) I'd always wanted to knit a sock too. I'm only a very beginner knitter, so once you get started it might not be long until you're onto a sock! :D 2w
  •   milkyrobot Ooo! This makes me want to pull out my sock bag and finish some socks! 2w
  •   flyhoof @milkyrobot yes!! :D This is my first one but I definitely want to do more. It's very relaxing. Well, apart from the bit where I just had to frog several inches of sock and start again because it was too narrow. That was quite stressful! :( 2w

  •   quiltwhileyoureahead Love scrabble!! 4w
  •   flyhoof @quiltwhileyoureahead me too! It's not often my boyfriend will play it with me (even though he nearly always wins), so it was a real treat! :) 4w
  •   popchomsky some classic words on there 4w
  •   justingrammer Hey, @johnfgstead, there must have been something in the air today. 4w
  •   johnfgstead Looks like it, yes -- and hey : some of those words are worse than what me and Jack had! 4w
  •   flyhoof @popchomsky @johnfgstead I'd like to point out that I wasn't responsible for turd or yoni... I insisted on checking that turd was in the dictionary and unfortunately it was! 4w

flyhoof Saw lots o' snow driving through Scotland yesterday... 4w
  •   flyhoof @jorobexeter hope you have a lovely time! Everything will be open by then too, I keep finding out about interesting places to visit nearby, only to read that they don't open till Easter! 4w
  •   lovestrawberrypatch @jorobexeter I am so jealous! 4w
  •   jorobexeter @lovestrawberrypatch there's a spare room in our cottage. I could smuggle you in. 4w
  •   jorobexeter @flyhoof and I hope the weather will be kind to us. We are only going to dumfries, so not sure if we'll see any snow. 4w
  •   flyhoof @jorobexeter I hope you have good weather! :) We often go to Dumfries and Galloway, I love the coast around there 4w
  •   jorobexeter @flyhoof any tips for places to go / eat / things to do? 4w
  •   flyhoof @jorobexeter if you're anywhere near the Cream O' Galloway ice cream place, that's supposed to be worth a visit (although I haven't managed to go yet!) and Kirkcudbright is a nice town to have a nosey around. We're quite boring on holiday, just spend all our time walking and wildlife watching :) 4w
  •   jorobexeter @flyhoof I've heard of both of those. Thanks :) 4w

  •   moonroveryarn Yes!! 4w
  •   poppyprint Selvedge is such a lovely publication - I've only found it here once and it was super expensive but I look through it often. 4w
  •   flyhoof @poppyprint it is a lovely magazine! Always lots of gorgeous photos. You're right about the price though, I've been a subscriber for a few years now but don't think I'll be able to afford to renew next time it comes round. I'll enjoy looking through my old copies though :) 4w
  •   machenundtun The grey yarn looks do lovely! 4w

flyhoof Zippy bags made for my boyfriend, although they might be wasted on him as I don't think he's as zippy-bag obsessed as I am... 4w
  •   katejm 4w
  •   carbonsoup These are so good!!!!!! 4w
  •   raspberryrainbow You can NEVER ever ever have too many zippered bags. Ever. Says the lady who has made hundreds of them. And I own dozens of them! Love yours 4w
  •   flyhoof @raspberryrainbow that's exactly how I feel about zippy bags!! I've only made them for other people so far, time to make some for me I think! 4w
  •   carenvdgeest What fabrics did you use? I love them! 4w
  •   flyhoof @carenvdgeest thanks! They're all from a range called Mixteca by Cloud 9 fabrics :) 4w
  •   poppyprint Perfect fabrics! 4w
