  • flossieteacakes We moved this wall hanging to a place where it gets more natural light shining on it last week - I much prefer it here. This morning I ordered the fabrics to start working on another for the place we moved it from. It will be in lots of shades of cream, taupe & gold silk dupion. I am now desperate for my fabrics to arrive as I can't wait to get started! I want a simple hand pieced/paper pieced pattern that focuses on colour value. Any ideas? I may design my own, but working with colour values isn't my strong point, so I'd love a pattern that could help me get it right.   1d
  • emmavtate I saw this and the blue one on your blog. They're stunning!   1d
  • lorena_in_syd Candied hexagons?   1d
  • flossieteacakes @lorena_in_syd I adore that pattern, but I think it works best with prints - all my fabrics are solids & it would feel like a missed opportunity not to have some fun with fussy cutting that one! Thank you for the idea though :)   1d
  • flossieteacakes @bruiseslikeapeach Yes, it was hand pieced, but for a small person I actually have quite chunky little fingers, so I don't believe sausages should stand in the way :)   1d
  • flossieteacakes @emmavtate Thank you!   1d
  • lorena_in_syd @flossieteacakes yes, it is lots of fun fussy cutting that one. How about patchwork of the crosses? Have you made that yet? That looks good in solids- textures ??   1d
  • coloradogreystar Would you share the pattern?   21h
  • flossieteacakes @coloradogreystar If there was one, but it was actually my own design. I don't have any plans to turn it into a pattern at the moment, but I'll let you know if I do at some point.   19h

  • flossieteacakes One more Laurel top on my blog (link in profile). And I found out today that one of my other Laurels came second in the Colette Patterns Laurel sewing contest! Hurrah! By the way, if you quilt, you will love the dress that came first in my category - it mixes dressmaking with piecing :)   3d
  • mybricole It's gorgeous!!   3d
  • misformake Gorgeous Florence and your prize winning one is beautiful too   3d
  • bind_quilts Congratulations! Love the top   3d

  • flossieteacakes "I haven't had this much fun since the pigs ate Uncle Billy" My sister and I loved this phrase when we were teenagers after hearing Katie Puckrik say it on The Word. I made her a card to depict it last night. I love the look of glee on the face of the pig on the left-hand side as he chortles over Uncle Billy's discarded hat and wellington.   1w

  • flossieteacakes Bella and a yellow broom plant. Whenever I post a picture of Bella in a public place I'm reminded of a little girl in my daughter's class who said: "my mummy saw a photo of your new cat on Facebook and she said it's really ugly." It still makes us laugh now, five years later, as it seems such an extraordinary thing for her to have said to her child.   1w
  • cottage_di_rosa I think she is beautiful!   1w
  • twolittleflowers Wish I were a cat and able to park wherever there was sunshine :)   1w
  • henpinn How mean! All kittys are lovely   1w
  • jennystitches I did a double take as she's almost identical to my little Dee Puss. She's beautiful!!   1w

  • flossieteacakes I've just been to a gorgeous nursery to buy my lovely father an Acer tree for his birthday. It was vaguely warm and the sun was making weak attempts to shine. Which is better than it being cold and raining solidly. I don't really want to give him the Acer which is is a sign of it being a really good present!   1w
  • misformake Going to the garden centre is a real treat!   1w
  • lusummers I went yesterday to a great nursery and it was ruddy freezing. I bought my mum a fig tree for her birthday which I'm not really sure I want to give her...but as I also bought a pear and a peach tree for me, I'd better relinquish it!   1w

  • flossieteacakes I finally spent the Fenwicks voucher my mother gave to me as a Christmas gift: my sole focus seemed to be Liz Earle.   1w
  • flossieteacakes @lusummers Liz Earle is amazing - wonderful quality for a mid price range.   1w
  • flossieteacakes @clessidracouture I use her foundation compact & it's the only thing I've ever used that I feel evens out my skin tone. I love it.   1w
  • flossieteacakes @susydunne I adore the Cleanse & Polish, but I've had to stop using it as it was irritating my eyes. I haven't heard of it doing this to anyone else though, so I think it must have been a side effect peculiar to me :(   1w
  • flossieteacakes @ninamistry I've used it twice now and I really like it :)   1w
  • clessidracouture Foundation compact? Ooh? Will look. I use the liquid foundation and find it brilliant. Hurray for Liz Earle! :)   1w
  • lifesrichpattern Love Liz Earle!!!   1w
  • ninamistry Fantastic!   1w
  • flossieteacakes @clessidracouture This is possibly TMI, but I prefer my eyelids to look a little more matt than they do when left to their own devices and anything I've put on them has tended to settle into a crease. This is amazing and has been my holy grail of foundations, but that's rather subjective as everyone's skin is different.   1w

  • flossieteacakes The recipes in here are so insanely good that I'm beginning to think that Australia must have far superior cakes to England generally! I wish all cookbooks had recipes that consistently tasted as heavenly as they look in the photographs. I'm going to look into if they have any vegetarian savoury ones too. Are Australian Women's Weekly cookbooks consistently good or have I just stumbled upon a gem?   2w
  • misformake Their kids birthday cake books are ace   2w
  • threehoneybees Yes! I have many. Especially the cake and slice ones. And I'd be lost without them for birthday cakes :)   2w
  • annasuperpics One of my favourites   2w
  • maiestia I have the massive "bake" one and its awesome. I've never heard anything bad about them   2w
  • clessidracouture They are fab. I have a huge collection. My Australian aunt is the best cook I know.   2w
  • onelittlethread they are the best. I also have a huge collection. just remember if you bake, to get a set of metric measuring cups & spoons   2w
  • smallquilts Mine are well used & appropriately stained :)   2w
  • flossieteacakes Hurrah! I can't wait until I can next get into town to discover what others they have. I've always ignored them in the past, but I'm sure at some point there was a stand with them on in Waterstones. I hope it's still there.   1w

  • flossieteacakes Nell, now 17 weeks old and absolutely huge! #goldenretriever   2w
  • frecklemama Absolutely gorgeous.   2w
  • heytavia She's growing to fast!! I love when their tail starts to get feathery. She is a doll!!!!   2w
  • thirdmargaret She is a true beauty!   2w
  • mybricole Sorry, for some reason I can't comment on blogs so I'm leaving this here. Your post was the final push I needed to track down the sewing bee on the Internet. I LOVE it!!   2w
  • rebeccakatie6 She is so beautiful!   2w
  • dovesabove I love goldies, yours is boootiful! 8)   2w
  • flossieteacakes @dovesabove thank you! She's currently looking like more of a whitie than a Goldie. Although I'm told she'll end up about the colour of her ears, which are slightly more golden in tone :)   2w
  • dovesabove @flossieteacakes I had a Lab retriever, they are divine, their eyes, are just soulful..very special bond with the master (feeder!). Ours malted as she stood still! Pooch love is the best!   2w

  • flossieteacakes I saw these lovely Kaffe shot cottons yesterday. Aren't they amazing colours - it took a lot of self-restraint to leave them on the shelf.   3w
  • verykerryberry @flossieteacakes they are lovely and soft too   3w
  • blueberryathome it would have been rude to...beautiful   3w
  • flossieteacakes @verykerryberry Yes, they're not at all like the Oakshotts are they - a very different feel to them. I find the KF harder to cut on a straight grain as they tend to wiggle around all over the place because they're so soft, but it does make for a cosier quilt.   3w
  • sewingdirectory They are so pretty, I've got quite a few shot cottons both Oakshott and Kaffe too :)   3w

  • flossieteacakes I'm now home from London and in my absence Nell has learnt to jump through my sparkly hoola hoop. A productive day all round ;)   4w
  • henpinn Is that real lawn Florence? It looks v nice and green? X   4w
  • lemonshark Love the ears! It looks like she's flying :-)   4w
  • poppyprint Ridiculously cute!!!   4w
  • flossieteacakes @henpinn No, my son plays football for at least an hour every day, even in winter, & so a lawn has never lasted more than 6 months. The AstroTurf is amazing (even though technically it's hideous) as he can play in the pouring rain without getting muddy & the lawn always looks (freakishly) perfect. It's fantastic with Nell too as it means there are never any muddy paw prints coming into the house. We have normal grass in our front garden though as it's slightly embarrassing, however practical :)   4w
  • flossieteacakes @lemonshark I do worry that she may take off.   4w
  • heytavia They love to exercise!!! So good!!! She is a doll!!   4w
  • henpinn Well I did wonder as I keep seeing that fake grass around and wondering what it's like. The bits of lawn in our front garden never look that great and it's a chore to take the mower round there so have been pondering..!   4w
  • phylliswhite Great pic! Cute dog!   4w

  • flossieteacakes #widrn Reading a book bought for me by a friend (but also recommended to me by @hazelnuts, I think) on the train into London, where I'm hoping it will be sunny as I've forgotten an umbrella. Tagging @backstitchshop @lorena_in_syd @mybricole @writtener @helenangharad   4w
  • poppypoochie oh I may get that book!   4w
  • phylliswhite @flossieteacakes Seen that book , is it good?   4w
  • writterer @flossieteacakes it's not raining :)   4w
  • flossieteacakes @lorena_in_syd Was I sad? I'm now feeling slightly confused as I can't remember what it might have been about. There was no rain in London, just plenty of fabric shopping :). I hope you're not feeling too glum about your children going back to school. x   4w
  • flossieteacakes @writtener No, it was lovely :)   4w
  • flossieteacakes @phylliswhite @poppypoochie Very good so far, but it has a similar ethos to a book I've already read, so it's not hitting me with any new ideas yet, which is disappointing, but not the fault of the book.   4w
  • lorena_in_syd Now I'm embarrassed I was thinking of someone else who had lost their dad. Sorry!   4w
  • flossieteacakes @lorena_in_syd That's no problem - I thought it sounded like serious concern on your part and I suddenly worried that I may have made a broken finger nail sound like world was ending at some point. It's a comfort that someone else's memory misinforms them in the same way mine often does to me ;). Sending warm wishes to your friend who has lost their dad though. x   3w

  • flossieteacakes I may be something of a one-trick pony. Another Laurel. Another Peter Pan collar. But it's so much fun & the true adventure comes in this finally being a project that contains not a single Liberty print as it does seem to have dominated my sewing lately. The fabrics here are both sandblasted silks. #laurel #colettepatterns   4w
  • quadrillecraft Well the last one was such a beaut, it would be crazy not to go again. The collar really makes it - Colette should definitely add that option to the pattern. Then I'd buy it. For sure.   4w
  • lusummers I should be getting my lazy bum out of bed and into the shower but your blog has me mesmerised...I am looking at it on my phone (which is not admittedly the best idea) & NOT getting anywhere near ready for the school run. It is entirely your fault with your perfect cornered lavender bags & beautiful running stitched diamonds.   4w
  • lululollylegs They suit you so well :)   4w
  • flossieteacakes @quadrillecraft have you seen the free ebook that has lots of other options? No Peter Pan collar, but lots of other lovely things.   4w
  • flossieteacakes @lusummers Lu, I am so flattered - thank you!   4w
  • flossieteacakes @lululollylegs Thank you :)   4w
  • heytavia Looks so perfect. You have my admiration!!   4w
