fitboynurse I have a question for you, parents out there: WHAT DO YOU FEED YOUR KIDS?... I was just thinking about my childhood & things I see in today's children. We weren't the models of what you should eat, growing up, but we ate mostly whole foods, lots of grains, beans, fruits, & veggies. I'm glad, because I wasn't allowed to be picky. We had to eat "well"! We didn't grow up on McDonald's, chips, soda, & other junk food. THANK GOD!
I see children today allowed to eat whatever they want. I see childhood morbid obesity. I see problems developing before my eyes, & it's so scary! I noticed it yesterday at the water park. JIGGLY JIGGLY little kids!! LITTLE!! 3, 5, 8 year-olds!! FAT! I'm not taking cute chubby checks! F.A.T.!! So sad... NOT only the aesthetics of it, but the DEADLY DISEASES starting NOW! (diabetes, cholesterol, & cardiovascular problems caused by diet & sedentary lifestyle, & joint problems caused by being overweight)

Isn't this platter something BEAUTIFUL, ATTRACTIVE, & DELICIOUS to serve kids as snacks? at b'day parties? at the diner table for dessert? Just throwing some ideas out there... be HEALTHY >> be HAPPY!

  •   ohloitsnicole With 2 kids in competitive sports following specialized diets and a hubs who is low fat/low carb and then my 2 littles who are considered "underweight" by todays standards it is a constant struggle to maintain their diets and fight with their peds about what is a healthy weight. This last year our ped wanted my 14yo son to go to a cardiologist/nutritionist because he was 5'8 1/2" and weighed 165. Ripped because he works out 5 days a week,but they wanted him to be evaluated for having abnormal weight for his age because a lot of kids that come to him at that weight are obese. We eat a LOT of veggies some fruits and filling amount of meat. We also eat junk #notgonnalie but its a hot pocket here and mc donalds once or so a week. My hubs splurges on candy and always has #poorkid The older kids work out 3 days a week and play volleyball/basketball 6-7 days a week depending on the season. 13h

  •   ohloitsnicole Its a constant struggle thats for sure. I am currently working with my soon-to-be 6yo as it appears she is a natural vegetarian. Some this meat and potatoes gal knows nothing about lol thanks for the support and amazing info/encouragement here 3h

fitboynurse What are you putting in there? It's like food- sometimes we carelessly just munch of junk without thinking about it. Similarly, we sometimes sit in front of the tv just passing (wasting) time with JUNK! Housewives? really? Maury? are you kidding me? At least watch a good show with some logic (Like Downton Abbey, lol.)
But really, there HAS to be a time in the day, EVERY DAY, when we feed our minds with something of SUBSTANCE! I call it Personal Development. What most the experts say, people I follow, my mentors, very successful men & women whom I admire, is to at least read 10 pages of a good book each day. Spend 20-30 min reading something that will motivate, encourage, push you to be a better man or woman, physically, mentally, socially, spiritually, financially.
The more you read/learn, the more you'll realize you NEED it, & want to continue. SO start today!! I recommend starting with The Compound Effect, by Darren Hardy!! One of my favorite books! be HEALTHY >> be HAPPY!

fitboynurse I have my old job scrubs & my new job badge. Where is my loyalty? I also have badges for 2 other agencies... When it comes down to business & my future, I'm loyal ONLY to myself & my personal health/fitness business! And I use these other entities to help further my goals & feed me! I'm not retiring from nursing! You cray-cray, yo, if you think I'm gonna work, busting my back for what I get paid. (Granted, it's more than most Americans wish to EVER make at their jobs...) 100K/ yr isn't enough to survive, raise a family, AND have a life, travel, & help others financially!! No way bro!!
Im planning on retiring WITHIN 2-3 yrs making AT LEAST 3X that much, in residual income, doing what I LOVE! ~ HELPING people LIVE more abundantly, thru a healthy lifestyle, including whole-foods healthy diet & exercise! I'm helping people regain & maintain their health/fitness BEFORE it's too late. THAT'S my passion.
WHAT? Of course I love nursing! I do awesome things! I love the technical, skilled, critical thinking aspect of it, & just I see & do awesome things most can never imagine, & the fact that I only work 3 days/week, & that I can, for the most part, self-schedule myself, & the prestige that comes from being a nurse (ONLY in the US tho!! nowhere else in the world will u get this type of recognition as a nurse), & of course the pay! BUT I can't do this for 20 more yrs! It's hopeless & depressing at times, & you rarely get to see someone get out of the ICU "well".
I love my life! I love what I do! I'm thankful to have the privilege to do what I do! But I want MORE!! MUCH MORE! And YOU SHOULD TOO!! If you'd like to do what I do, if you're a stay-at-home mom or dad, if you're a teacher, if you're a nurse, if you're a cleaning lady, if you're a retail worker, if you're a cook, if you're unemployed - whatever!! Yes, a little friendly competition is not bad. But this thing about being obsessed with others & their accomplishments... NO BUENO!! Concentrate on doing YOU! This is YOUR time! You can do anything you set your heart to! Stop COMPARING because you're the ONLY "you" there is. (even if you're an identical twin, btw...)

fitboynurse Who else is IN LOVE with Avocados? I like to eat them by themselves, mashed or in quarters with rice and soy sauce, add them to my smoothies/shakes (yes, I just said smoothies & shakes!! TRY IT!!), etc! SO many options! They are neutral in taste, so can be added to sweet or savory dishes!

Someone on facebook posted today, "feeling depressed." I think not happens to all of us at some point. But really, we have few things to be depressed about. Mostly it's silly, trivial things that cause it. My response to him in a comment was: "are you alive?
are you healthy?
did you eat today?
do you have family & friends?
are you able to get an education?
do you have internet?
can you drink fresh, clean water whenever you want, as much as you want?
do you have a toilet & shower available whenever you need?

Now think of the BILLIONS who can NEVER have any of those things.
are you still depressed? Think positively. don't let silly emotions being you down. rise above them!
now go do 10 push-ups, have a drink of water, and smile. there's nothing to be depressed about."

Really, I need to remind myself of that. So, anyway, be HEALTHY > be HAPPY!

fitboynurse The END of the journey, your GOAL, is down the road... it's THERE, somewhere. You gotta keep traveling, & you may not see it get any closer, but THAT'S the point of DISCIPLINE! You KEEP DOING! you continue going! You don't quit! If you continue, day after day, fail after fail, challenge after challenge, you WILL get there eventually! That's what I'm doing! I'm TOTALLY in the "developing" the discipline part, & it's HARD at times! I wanna do this, & that, I wanna do FUN things all the time, go out every day, I wanna travel, take a vacation. I can't do that right now. I'm building my business & my future! I need to spend time reading, learning, practicing, developing relationships & systems ~ I'm just so busy! BUT I'm committed! I need to do work NOW, & I know I'll get to have fun LATER!
