Normal Everyday Africa
everydayafrica A kid plays with an old car tyre in front of a charcoal stall. The high cost of Liquified Petroleum Gas means that many households still depend on charcoal to cook their meals. Ghana is gradually becoming a desert. The trees that aren't chopped down for charcoal get chopped down for the "beautification of the city" or exported timber or used in the construction industry. Recent attempts to plant more trees in the driest parts of the country ended up being a scam that will forever taint the administration of President John Mahama of Ghana. #SADA #environment #corruption #ghana #africa #osu #accra Photo by Nana Kofi Acquah @africashowboy (Copyright: 2014). 5d

everydayafrica "Today too, no fish". Those were Isaac's words as I showed up on the beach to buy some fish. There are countless reasons why the fisherman's life is getting harder: pair trawling, climate change, piracy etc. Photo by Nana Kofi Acquah @africashowboy (Copyright: 2014). #Langma #beach #ghana #africa 1w

everydayafrica The Allocodrome in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. We ordered grilled chicken and fish smothered in a tomato/onion/cucumber vinaigrette, served with attieke and fried plantains (so delicious - hard to beat Ivoirian cuisine). Then these guys delivered a couple bottles of cold beer. They then launched into an animated conversation next to our table that went on for some time, full of laughing and arguing and much gesticulating with their arms. Then she walked by. And it all came to a full and silent halt. January 2013. Lo-fi Everyday Africa
everydayafrica Last night my car broke down and a gentleman asked me to park it in his yard, where it will be safe. I couldn't see much. I went there this morning to thank him and get the car and this was the scene that met me. "Lakeside Beach" is definitely one of Accra's hidden gems. •   shanimeserve @reddacar youre right about palm oil contributing to deforestation and harm to orangutans i think the only way to stop it is not use it. I dont blame this man though. You do what you gotta do to survive but WE dont need those products to survive 2w
  •   infamous_bully @blkbone27 the hustle dont stop 2w
  •   fannyvandewalle The problem is not the oil itself, neither is the man harvesting it to sustain his livelihood, but the traders on the international trading platforms pushing the prices up and down artificially to control it's price and demand wich makes the possibilities of this product exploitable to the extent that it causes harm to all in the chain but themselves 2w
