ekwetzel You guys. I don't typically brag, but Phoebe's birthday cake was RIDICULOUS. This morning, I honestly had no idea what it would taste like. But eeeeeermigarsh it was amazing. So tasty. The light whipped frosting perfectly complimented the moist cake and juicy sweet strawberries. Plus: when Phoebe saw the "pink cake with strawberries and marshmallows" that she requested, she literally squealed with joy, then did a little dance. How fulfilling to make a dream of hers become a reality!! >>> ((And, bc I know someone will ask, here's my recipe...)) >>> I used "The Best White Cake Recipe {Ever}" from addapinch.com...with a few tweaks: I used 1.5 cups butter (NO shortening) and 1 cup milk (NO buttermilk). Follow all the instructions: have ingredients at room temp, cream butter well, take the time to sift your flour, and blend really really well. >>> I eyeballed the filling, but here's an approximation: a block of cream cheese, about 1/4 cup strawberry rhubarb jam, about 1/4 cup sugar, and about 1 teaspoon vanilla. Whip it really really well. Then add about a cup of sliced strawberries and blend it some more. >>> Frosting: honey whip cream. Freeze your bowl & whisk for at least 10 minutes. I used about 3 cups heavy whipping cream, and let it blend until the cream was forming good peaks. Then I turned off the mixer, adde a big dollop of honey right under the whisk (about 1/3 - 1/2 cup) and whisked till blended. At this point I also added pink food coloring. ((I should've added vanilla, but I forgot)). >>> Then I squished strawberries & marshmallows into the frosting & VOILÁ!!! Phoebe's dreamy pink birthday cake!!! 1d

ekwetzel #riteofpassage Phoebe jammed beef jerky up her nose and we couldn't get it out. Thankfully, we were out running errands and only three blocks from the emergency room, so we rushed right over. Free valet parked my car. We were admitted immediately. Every nurse and doctor we saw was quick, friendly, kind and great with my howling-in-pain child. Beef jerky easily came out. We're now at home and 100% OK. I'm so thankful for Mary Bridge Children's Hospital & the staff we met today. Afterwards we splurged on some macaroons. Because dude. It was a rite of passage for both of us. #macaroonsmakeeverythingbetter 2d
  •   ekwetzel @joahwalker I absolutely LOVED them. 2d

ekwetzel For three years, this is how she has fallen asleep almost every night. #beautifulbfing #breastfeedingisbeautiful 3d
  •   ekwetzel @henmarro ^_^ thanks 3d
  •   sarahofseven What a good mama, and three is still a baby! 3d
  •   photosbyiman That's so sweet. 3d
  •   arkdesigns :) Beautiful. We've just hit 18 months. Mainly night nursing but some day. I know ill miss it when we stop. Some days she drives me mad like when she's teething and particularly clingy and needy with it. I feel very lucky we've got this far x 3d
  •   yourwishcake My daughter weaned at 17 months and I find myself missing it (it's been over a year now!). I know of more and more people who are working hard to normalize extended breastfeeding and it is so wonderful to me. Rock on, mama. 3d
  •   veronikagphotography 2,5 years for us and still going strong) I love it so much can't imagine to stop with my probably last baby.... 3d
  •   ekwetzel @veronikagphotography I feel like once we hit 2.5 years, it was just so normal, I couldn't imagine NOT nursing. 2d
  •   missfurnellie I found at about 2 mine would no longer nurse to sleep. Instead nursing gave them super awake powers. You're doing awesome! & it's soooo sweet! I can't wait to have a little nurseling again (V weaned at 2.5 S at 4.5). 11h
