dcambaxp True, only a tumbleweed is missing from the picture. The “old houses district”, as I am calling it now, is a small and quiet part of downtown Portoviejo; a very nostalgic, yet inviting, kind of neighborhood. Streets are lonely; you only hear the birds sing, leaves fall, and the wind smells like centuries. You would think that someone would, suddenly, show up by the long vertical windows and sport a time-worn smile as young as those buildings. But "reality" hits the fan -abandoned houses make it a semi-ghost town. A once vibrant part of town is now failing the test of time. I will post a few more pictures of these houses just to have an Instagram record of the reality of my hometown to contrast them with the wish of decorating this Old Quarter with floral arrangements on those windows, sober lights on the streets and soothing music to charm the atmosphere in an everyday festival only real on a childish liberal’s fantasy. 1w

dcambaxp On today's #ChurchTour2K1X feature, the Catholic "House of Prayer" of Portoviejo is shown. This relatively new building looks big on the outside but it's rather small: Capacity 15 people. It's only used to pray and worship Virgin Mary; no mass is performed in here. Behind, the now-defunct Banco La Previsora building rises up as the tallest structure in the city. 1w

dcambaxp There are about 40 to 60 houses in the downtown area of my hometown, Portoviejo, which are at least 100 years old. Sadly, most of them are abandoned. So I decided to explore the city and photograph the outside of those houses and whenever possible the inside. Many of them still have utensils and furniture left over (apparently for years) and now they shelter wild doves and bats. I took this picture on the second floor of an abandoned house which still has a decent structure in the front. 1w
