davidavila26 Anyone else feel so insignificant by the fact that these celestial bodies are rotating in harmony to bring balance (literally) to this world and beyond this galaxy? Every single star and planet has moved into the position they are in by one single force that has continued to exist since the beginning of all time and will exist till the end of time. Gravity. When you really think of what we are witnessing with our eyes, it makes every human action on Earth seem so insignificant. Our universe exists beyond a scope we can fathom, yet we can see it's intimate workings with our very eyes.
We truly are fortunate to witness these sort of events and have them unite all of humanity in a spectacle provided by these magnificent forces. If only for a brief moment in time all the hatred and evil that exists can be eliminated by a single unifying event. It amazes me how are reactions of wonder and amazement are still stirred deep within the human psyche in a similar manner that it was when ancient civilizations existed on earth.
We are all connected.

davidavila26 "Sometimes life is a trip, it can make you do mysterious things. And sometimes life is a bitch, how do you deal with the pain?" Old lyrics to a gangster poem that resonates across every spectrum of humanity. Fate will rarely bring about circumstances at the moment of our choosing. Often times we must struggle under already dire situations. But sometimes we get a break. A glimmer of light that can cascade upon us and cleanse away the chaos. You must choose to let it happen and not let excuses get in the way. Too often I hear people wanting to do something, but they let any excuse hold them back from self actualizing. Now I understand there may be very specific and certainly justifiable reasons why something cannot be accomplished, but have you truly exhausted every resource before accepting that fate? You can lie to your friends, your family, your coworkers, anyone, but you cannot lie to yourself. You can't just sit there feeling defeated if you haven't truly exhausted every avenue to overcome the negative situations in your life. Move forward until you have collapsed and truly cannot go beyond that point and when you think you have reached that point, ask yourself:"is this it?" Your response should be real. Stop lying to yourself. 7d

davidavila26 The end of the Super Spartan in January. This race kicked my ass in a good way. It was humbling and definitely taught me some lessons I have incorporated into my training. By the time I got to the end of the race I had a nasty cramp in my quad and this last segment seemed a lot more daunting than what it actually was seeing as how I was barely able to jump at this point. That was a serious lesson learned. Not going to make the same mistake twice and I will definitely take the steps needed to prevent another cramp by modifying my training and nutrition. No matter the situation we face, we must learn from our mistakes and change accordiny. We must be willing to let go of things that do mot work in our favor and embrace positive adversity that will make us better people. #spartanrace #metroflexlbc #ironaddicts #soalpha 1w

  •   allisonimac I tried to like this twice what did you do to train? 1w
  •   davidavila26 @allisonimac It's a systematic training program that incorporates various aspects of the race. It's designed to take an individual and build them up to the race level in order to perform. The initial build was provided by my friend who is a professional triathelete and I Have modified it all along the way. But each day of the week is different and some days are consistently the same. So Saturday morning we do trail running across various terrain. That stays consistent to prime the body into running on Saturday mornings. I have also included strength and endurance workouts to mimic race conditions. For example I will do a workout that may be something as simple as Run 800M, 2 rope climps, 15 burpees 5 rounds for time followed by a full lower body or upper body strength training workout. We also incorporate very specific race techniques such as Atlas Stones, Tire Flips, sled pulls, etc. I'm doing the beast in June and the biggest addition I have incorporated is swimming. I have made various other changes as well to the program. I'm considering compiling it all together in an E-Book. 1w
  •   allisonimac definitely do that. Maybe some video showing how too... 1w

davidavila26 Yesterday, I turned 30. Hence why I'm so dirty in this picture. I look back on the past decade and truly embrace both my victories and defeats. They serve purpose to learn, adapt, and overcome. I served in the Marines, graduated College, started a small business, and began the path of my professional career. I feel healthy and incredibly fit for my age as I see a multitude of people who are the same age or younger but look and feel worse. I owe that all to fitness and the passion I have for it. I have been seriously training since I was 17 and haven't stopped. Why? Because fitness is like opening Pandoras box: it never ends and there will always be something new to challenge you. Im looking forward to another 30+ years of challenges and heavy shit to push, pull, throw, and put back down. #metroflexlbc #spartanrace #30 #birthday 3w

davidavila26 Cali & Bentley. Our gym mascots. These two dogs have very different personalities but bring nothing but positive energy. You can find Cali sunbathing in the back and Bentley running around the gym trying to play with everyone or eat their food. Rare to see them together like this. #metroflexlbc #gymmascot #dogsofinstagram 4w

davidavila26 Training with Atlas Stones, because picking heavy shit up only to put it back down is a very effective way to gain raw strength. Not sure if the Spartan Beast will have the Atlas stone lift, but the Super did and it was so easy to do. Training needs to incorporate as many elements as possible that you will encounter in any event. Though we cannot forsee every element; prior proper planning prevents piss poor performance. If you're interested in training for your next event, contact me for more information! Our training facility has all of the equipment you need and more to perform at your best! #metroflexlbc #spartanrace #spartantraining 4w

davidavila26 Reality exists in the way it does independently of what any particular person believes about it - no amount of belief is going to change the laws of nature, or the age, scale, development and physical properties of the universe. Therefore the only way to ascertain what is true about nature is to derive our knowledge and understanding from observations of nature itself and adjust our beliefs accordingly. We must all make the provisional assumption that one or other of our beliefs is incorrect and in need of amendment. To do this we must free ourselves from the pride that convinces us that our beliefs are the right ones, we must not consider being wrong to be shameful, we must not "fall in love" with our beliefs and we must consider it a source of pride when we are willing to change our beliefs when they are no longer in accord with the facts. 1mon

davidavila26 Change your perspective. Really, the best thing about training for Spartan races is the view. The training is hard, painful, and I question why I'm doing this. No real answer other than I just really want to do this and I want to challenge myself. Why not? Push yourself and see what your body is truly capable of accomplishing. You only get one body. Maximixe its potential. 1mon

davidavila26 This past month has been so busy. I don't mind, but it definitely takes a toll on the mind and body. It's so easy to get caught up in life that we forget to live. After leaving the military I made it a point to enjoy a sunset or sunrise when I get the opportunity to do so. It's not often I get that chance, but the few moments I do are in a state of mindfullness. One of the few moments in which I can temporarily put life on hold and enjoy being alive. 2mon

davidavila26 Running through the trails this caught my eye for a split second. I backed up, set up, and took the shot. This is what came out. It took a few seconds to capture 1/4 of a second that won't ever be repeated. But here it is. A moment in time no one else captured. Isn't that what our own lives are? A series of moments only we can capture. Only we can seize them and truly make them what we want. Be observant of the world around you and recognize your moments to rise above. 2mon

davidavila26 All we can do is look ahead and move forward. Sand bag carries from the last race. Not bad at all compared to that stupid bucket carry. Still, it got done. And of course I have to represent the best gym jn the universe. #metroflexlbc #spartanrace 2mon

davidavila26 Uphill. It's easier to go around and run on flat terrain. Easier, but the view sucks. As my friend @mikerashid once said; "You have to be comfortable being uncomfortable. "
It's easy to continue doing the same workouts routines and same exercises, but don't expect different results. Get out of that comfort zone and see what your body is capable of accomplishing. Set path to purpose and accomplish that which you have set out to do. Nobody will do those extra miles, reps, laps, etc. for you.

davidavila26 View from the top of Signal Hill today. Had a great 6 mile run today with more hills incorporated into the run than usual. The last Spartan race had some nasty hills that kicked my ass. Hopefully, this new training regimen will strengthen that weakness and overcome that aspect of the race. What changes are you making to your training program for your next competition? 2mon

davidavila26 Low crawl under that barbed wire! I don't understand why people roll. You get bunched up, hit mud mounds, and cant fully see where you are going. If there is one thing the Marine Corps teaches very well is how to low crawl (and shoot). I made up so much time and passed up so many people with a proper low crawl. Use the roll only when needed. But that's just me. Perhaps I'm missing a piece of the puzzle? If you roll, why? 2mon
