dandz Sunrise at Manila's Sunset Blvd

This shot was taken on the bridge over the intersection of Roxas Boulevard and Buendia Avenue.

Roxas Blvd, as i have mentioned in my previous post, is the west end of Buendia Avenue. This 7.6km (4.72mi) long street holds Manila's most famous spots to view the setting sun. It has taken several names before ending up with its current name. It was originally named Cavite Blvd, then renamed to Dewey Blvd in honor of the American Admiral George Dewey, then renamed to Heiwa Blvd in late 1941 during the Japanese Home Rule, and lastly to Roxas Blvd to honor the fifth president of the Republic of the Philippines, President Manuel Roxas.

Ugong, Pasig City, #Philippines

Pasig was believed to have come from the old Sanskrit word “passid”, or sand, which refers to the tribal community beside the sandy edges of the river. Some historians believed that El Pasig came from Legaspi (Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, theBasque explorer well known for being involved in the "Sanduguan", and was the first Governor-General of the Spanish East Indies.
It was pronounced “mapaksik” by the Pre-Hispanic Chinese inhabitants of Binondo, Manila (Mabagsik is Tagalog for "terrifying" - depicting the river's raging current during the typhoon season, causing massive floods on nearby towns and villages, destroying wide hectares of farmland, and even bringing huge amounts of logs and water lilies from Marikina River, Laguna de Bay, and San Juan River towards Colonial Manila). “Mapaksik" later became "Pah-sik", and was then changed to what is now "Pasig". It may have also come from the Tagalog word "dalampasigan", which means "riverbank".
According to Jose Villa Panganiban, the former director of The Institute of National Language, "Pasig" is another ancient Sanskrit word meaning “ A waterway coming from one body of water to another,” which briefly describes the river because its flow starts from Laguna de Bay, leading to Manila Bay.

Anahaw Beach Resort, Calapan, Oriental Mindoro
Calapan, the Provincial Capital and gateway of Oriental Mindoro, is the center of education, religious activities, comerce, and industry of the said province.
Oriental Mindoro as its name implies, composes the eastern part of the island of Mindoro, the 7 largest island in the Philippines. Mindoro was formerly called Mai or Mait by Chinese traders, and Mina de Oro (from where its current name was derived) which means "gold mine" by Spaniards.

dandz One Roxas Triangle Tower 1

Currently the 8th tallest building in Makati City, #Philippines. It is a 51-storey residential condominium that stands at 174.3 meters (571.85 feet). Since One Roxas Triangle is supposed to be a 2 tower complex, then i guess its safe to assume that Tower 2 is now under construction, as per the lower right part of this picture.

A 2.3km (1.43mi) road, in Makati City, that forms the eastern boarder of Ayala Traingle, with the other 2 boarders being 2 old airport runways, of the old Nielson Field airport, converted into wide roads known today as Ayala avenue and Paseo de Roxas. The said airport was shut down after World War II, but the control tower was preserved and is now a library named Filipinas Heritage Library.
In this photo, Makati avenue is the one in the middle, slanting upward from right to left. While Paseo de Roxas is the one on the left.

dandz Buendia Avenue

I failed. It was supposed to be a 365 day project. But time was not on my side and 48 continues days was all I could provide. Deadlines and heavy work load are my alibis. I know that there's just no valid reason for this. I haven't posted anything for 19 days but now Im back to redeem myself. I failed myself but i want to make up for all those failures. From now on it wont be just pictures. I will be posting stories and I hope to be a good story teller thru my pictures.

So to start this new project, lemme introduce you all to the city that made me fail my previous project, Makati City, the financial center of the Philippines. The city that houses the source of my daily stress. But im still thankful with this city for without it i wont have the resources for my daily living, and of course i wont be able to have this post in the first place.
Buendia Avenue, now called Senator Gil Puyat Avenue, is one of the busiest streets of Metro Manila. One that most taxi drivers are very allergic of during rush hours. Its actually 5.4km (3.36mi) long, with EDSA and Roxas Blvd as its east and west ends, respectively. In this picture, it is the street at the lower part. It is most accessible during Sundays, like any other street.;P

TRIVIA:
Buendia Avenue got its name from a Bulacan senator back in the 1940s who is Nicolas Buendia.
Senator Gil Puyat served from 1951-1972.
