crystalann_b Sunset from above - McHenry's Peak emerges from thick clouds as the sun drops toward the horizon and illuminates the Glacier Gorge region of Rocky Mountain National Park. I am so grateful for this evening spent above the clouds on the summit of Storm Peak. 2w

crystalann_b The Great Mountain - My last two days have been spent backpacking at 12,000 feet in Rocky Mountain National Park's highest campsite. The alpine tundra and rocky crags of the park's 13,000 and 14,000 foot peaks are my favorite places to photograph. For this photo, my friend and I scrambled around snow and a steep ridge line to the 13,326 foot summit of Storm Peak. Once on the summit, clouds engulfed us from the valleys below and obscured the surrounding peaks. The light and clouds came together to reveal one of the best sunsets I've ever seen. Perfect for framing my favorite mountain - Longs Peak. 2w

crystalann_b The Mountains Beyond - another angle from a high point in Fiordland National Park captures my attempt to fit the grand landscape into my lens. crystalann_b Sunset shadows - this past weekend I visited Great Sand Dunes National Park as part of a class field trip. We arrived late on our first night and I was unable to reach the top of the dunes for sunset. The following night brought rain and snow and further eliminated my photo opportunities! Although I wasn't able to capture what I had hoped, it was still a great trip to a beautiful and unique park. Be sure to check my Facebook page for the uncropped version! #GreatSandDunes #Colorado #sunset #neverstopexploring #coloradotography 2mon

  •   passionpassport Hi Crystal, beautiful photo! Mind sharing a bit more with us (for example, what did you do while it was raining/snowing and what were your feelings by getting this shot, etc...)? We'd love to feature this in the next couple of days, so let us know, cheers! 2mon
  •   crystalann_b Absolutely! I felt extremely grateful for the opportunity to witness and capture this beautiful sunset, however brief it was. After taking this shot, I left my shoes and tripod and crossed the Medano Creek that flows at the base of the dunes. I then climbed to the top of the dunes in the fading evening light with my classmates. The second night I tried again for a photo by climbing the dunes in the rain, but was unable to capture what I wanted. I then returned to camp and awoke the next morning to four inches of fresh snow and found the dunes obscured in white. @passionpassport 2mon

crystalann_b Photographer's dream - thanks for your help taking this one! @sierrabsweet Toroweap Overlook provides many opportunities for dramatic shots. Since we were the only people at this location for sunrise, I decided to try to include myself in the photo. After scrambling over rocks on the edge and trying a few different angles, @sierrabsweet captured this shot. Hopefully this image lends scale to the immensity of the Grand Canyon below. 3mon

crystalann_b Yesterday's sunrise as seen from Mesa Arch - after a night of camping in the Island in the Sky region of Canyonlands, @sierrabsweet and I arrived at this famous arch an hour before sunrise to find the best spots already occupied by photographers. Although the shooting location wasn't perfect, the spectacle of sunrise through the arch was a fantastic way to bring our Utah and Arizona tour to a close. #MesaArch #sunrise #Canyonlands #Utah 4mon
