charlesdharapak The Secret Service has started deploying specialized canine units to help protect the area around the White House grounds, where tourists flock day and night to catch a glimpse of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Although the Secret Service has used police dogs since 1976 to pre-screen areas for presidential visits, this is the first time they’re being broadly deployed among the general public. charlesdharapak Spending the afternoon with two of my alto saxophones and a Cannonball Adderley transcription book. At top is a sterling silver Yanagisawa (Japanese made) and at bottom is a vintage King Super 20 Silver Sonic (American made). The #saxophone is usually made of brass but using sterling silver gives it more projection and complex sound. Haven't had a chance to practice in a while. If you don't know Cannonball, he's one of the greats. Check him out on Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" and his work as a bandleader. 4d
  •   charlesdharapak @chasread @tlc2k14 @wh1ppasnappa @willowbarcelona Cannonball is really underrated. He was so musical. Looking at his transcribed solos... He was a great music educator too 4d
  •   kuwait_daily Great! 2d
  •   corypix #cannonballAdderly rocks nice horns @charlesdharapak whoa that silversonic looks like new !! Is the yani all silver ? Amazing 2d
  •   charlesdharapak @corypix the Silver Sonic is from 1961 and the Yani neck body bow and bell are all sterling silver. It's the A-9937 and the second production ever made. I got to meet the guy who talked Yanagisawa into making them. 2d
  •   corypix @charlesdharapak Charles love to hear u on both horns. How's the keywork on the king silversonic? 1d
  •   charlesdharapak @corypix I need to work out a good video/audio setup. The keywork on the King Super 20 is pretty good. I have no issues with it. Intonation on the Yani is much better because it is a "modern" horn. But King had a thing going with their bore design. There is certainly a "sizzle" with those horns when compared to a Selmer Mark VI. I would say the King is a great jazz, rock and roll, and lead horn. Selmers are great too, more versatile. But I've been getting more into vintage American horns lately. Everyone is playing a Selmer so I'm going for something a little different, which has it's own history. Martins, Conns, Kings... Great American saxophones. 1d
  •   charlesdharapak @corypix I think the differences are much more noticeable to the player and not necessarily the audience. The King has a lot more "zip" to how it plays. Hard to describe. My Selmer Mark VI is my baseline. 1d
  •   corypix Always been intrigued with American horns. Haven't played enough tenors. I wish hawaii was more like tokyo or NYC. Fun! 1d

charlesdharapak #throwbackthursday June 1993 -- Passport photos. I had just finished college and was getting ready to head out to Thailand. These were self portraits shot in the basement of my parent's home in Staten Island, NY. I souped the Tri-X myself and made passport sized prints. I went with the one on the left. #tbt 7d

charlesdharapak The United States Air Force Memorial. Arlington, Virginia. According to the memorial's website: "The spires symbolize many things. The number three is significant to the Air Force because it represents its three core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. The spires are also reflective of a bomb burst maneuver. Finally, the three spires also stand for three of four planes performing a Missing Man formation." 2w

charlesdharapak Sunny, one of the Obama family dogs, walks with a White House employee by the Rose Garden. Behind them you can see the Oval Office and West Wing. Building seen at rear is the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The press pool had just returned to the White House after accompanying President Obama to Fort Belvoir, Virginia where he played a private game of golf. 2w

charlesdharapak As seen from the Presidential Motorcade: These visitors and pedestrians on 14th Street NW (not far from the White House) are unaware that President Obama is sitting in an unmarked SUV a couple of vehicles ahead as we are stopped at a traffic light. We are returning from Fort Belvoir, Virginia after he played a private game of golf. 2w
  •   snakaphoto That's so cool, and one lady was taking pictures. 2w
  •   thejoelowry No motorcade? He actually stopped at lights? @charlesdharapak 2w
  •   charlesdharapak @thejoelowry yes it's a motorcade but since golf is considered an OTR movement we don't get intersection control so we stop at lights. No POTUS seal on his vehicle or flags either. But the usual Secret Service detail. Low key. 2w
  •   thejoelowry Interesting. I didn't know the President traveled any way other than a fast-moving, light-blowing motorcade. Thanks for answering! 2w
  •   kebursaw Cool shot Charles 2w
