baltimoresun Jimmy Stewart, who has been homeless on the streets of Baltimore for the last four years, stands outside his tent as homeless outreach workers with People Encouraging People talk with others at their tent encampment under the JFX expressway. The outreach workers informed the homeless of city's services and to let them know that the city will clean up the encampments and remove their belongings within days. Friday's expected sweep marks the city's latest attempt to clear the encampments that periodically pop up downtown. City officials say they are unsafe and can be breeding grounds for drug activity and other social ills.
But the city has struggled to find a long-term solution for the estimated 2,500 to 4,000 homeless people in Baltimore. (Kenneth K. Lam/The Baltimore Sun)

  •   nia_since84 Thousands of vacant homes and thousands of homeless people...this city sucks. 4w
  •   zombiesarereal They need to go somewhere. What are they supposed to do? The lack of compassion for the homeless is so sad. 4w
  •   heyken10 No one is talking about the mental illnesses and/or substance abuse that many homeless people suffer from. The solution is not always as easy as just giving them a place to live. 4w
  •   quisebabie It's prevalent here... I hope the city makes them a priority 4w
  •   ccuev Mental health needs to be a top priority. Addiction should be in the same conversation. 4w
  •   pillznarry #LiberalismDestroys everything it touches. Intentions don't equal results. No one has rights to anything that costs money or another person to make sure to gets done. You are YOUR responsibility. No one else's. Same goes for these homeless. You wanna help someone? Do it. Don't make it everyone's responsibility because it'll make you feel good. We all got problems. 4w
