baltimoresun Tourists never come to see the #cherryblossoms in West Baltimore, in the heart of what local residents warmly refer to as "the hood." But they could, as far as resident Marvin "Doc" Cheatham is concerned.

In this economically downtrodden part of #Baltimore, the pinkish-white blooms mean more than a little color. They are a sign of something bigger, Cheatham and other residents of the block said.
They are a sign of life in a section of Baltimore where too many neighborhoods are dying. (More: http://bsun.md/Q4IUjN)

baltimoresun Peeling carpet tiles and graffiti inside the former Centre Theater in the #StationNorth Arts District. The abandoned movie theater won an architecture prize when it opened in 1939, but the movie theater closed only 20 years later. A radio station lasted into the '90s, and the bulding housed offices and a church. But the damage of time and water is set to be reversed as the Art Deco building at 10 E. North Ave. is converted into classrooms and office space. (Christopher T. Assaf/#BaltimoreSun) #baltimore 3w
