agoldenafternoon I'm thankful to have my family here this week, if even for unfortunate circumstances.
Most of all, I understand:
I am broken but running
Towards You God,
You make me whole
You are exactly what we need
Only You can satisfy.

agoldenafternoon Poor guy. He's completely exhausted because he's spent the last few Saturdays priming and painting wood for the new picket fence around the garden. Oh wait, that was me. #theleonardthepug 1w

agoldenafternoon Love the way the kid's "Japanese" gardens turned out. Hopefully, they remember the lesson involved of where we find strength. It is not from order or strength within oneself, but from God alone. Actually, I need to remember that too. 1w

agoldenafternoon Can't put this book down! We are reading "The Count of Monte Cristo" for our book club. I've always wanted to read it. If you've never read it, DO IT! Long but worth it. 1w

agoldenafternoon Kitchen education is almost as important to us as the books. Think about how much we humans eat! If we don't know how to feed our body properly, we can't expect much to stay up in our noggin' after all of that learning! It's all SO connected, right?! 2w

agoldenafternoon Some days, I can't help but feel the weight of the lives around me, OUTSIDE the home. I want to see the homeless who are in our church every Sunday find a stable home, take in the orphans and snuggle them, and be a friend to the widow. Last month, we lost a friend to suicide. As everyone carries about their everyday routines, there are people amongst us who are suffering. Don't forget them. Share love with them from He who has loved most. You can never assume that extra hug won't matter. 2w

agoldenafternoon Working on our new "Bank" system for the kid's money. We started with the 10-20-70 rule for give-save-spend but I was thinking that system is missing an investment category and perhaps an extra "offering" category for giving over and above the 10. What do you guys think? Complicated or responsible? Does anyone have any tried and true methods for this? 2w
  •   tara_deerfeet ....forgot to add (sorry) that they give at least 10%, then if they fill lead to spend/give more that is entirely up to them. (We didn't want them to resent giving by forcing more) they have developed a love for giving! 2w
  •   kim_inglee Keep it simple. Focus less on percentage and more on giving out of love or compassion rather than principal my kids always give more when moved by their hearts than a 'rule'. 2w
  •   jammeree Dave Ramsey has a fun system for kids with this concept. 2w
  •   sfilly03 I love it!! 2w
  •   candacerachele we do this with Ruth !! Such a great idea . 2w
  •   randiloveslola We are just starting a system I actually found through a blog a couple months ago. I think it's Dave Ramsey inspired ... anyway it's 20-40-40 encouraging more of the giving and saving. I'm not sure when we are "allowed" to let them spend that savings or if it's off limits. I'm a bit behind and just getting started with the whole money stuff, but I'm sure it will be a lot of trial and error as we adjust it to our fam. I too want to keep it simple and have the giving portion resonate in their hearts .... I think that portion will mostly come by my example though as the opportunities arise each day. And I'm not sure if it should all go to "tithe" or split it into 2 categories for "tithe" and "give" .... Glad you're sharing about this, I sure love the extra tips and encouragement! 2w
  •   nicolevbennett Your file box is so neat! We do 10-30-30-30: giving, spending, short term savings (like a big Lego set or something), long-term saving (like a car or college). More than 10% for giving would always be welcome though. Now to get her to actually do chores so we can pay her! :) 2w
  •   bethstamper I just posted on this too. We do 10-20-70, but the save category has to be for something they declare at least two months before using it and the giving goes to church but if friends birthdays come up or other reasons they want to give then a portion comes out of their spend $. 2w

agoldenafternoon She made me gluten-free banana bread. She did everything right but it just wasn't the same. Gluten-free update: feeling so much better in the gut, which was my WORST fear about cutting it out on trial. I gave up dairy a few years ago and I'm not ready to say goodbye to bread...or beer. 3w
  •   jennaloudesigns Going gf is really hard when you have been used to eating it all your life... Even if it makes you feel good and you know it's good for you. I spent the past two months gf for my nursing daughter. 3w
  •   bethanythislittleestate I'm almost to my year date of cutting out gluten entirely. Like you, I did it experimentaly. No beer and homemade bread is the worst! #lovetobake On a side note though, have you tried a pro biotic for sixty days? I just saw a nutritionist specialist and she advised that, immediately I felt amazing. I discourage unsolicited advice, but thought I would share. On date night last week my tummy suprisingly, handled the best risky maple organic beer on earth. #hopethathelps 3w
  •   storehousecrafts They have gluten free beer!!! 3w
  •   madelinejoyxo dream kitchen! 3w
  •   igotgoldboy I've been off gluten for over a year now and feel exponentially better. I definitely miss the bread, but redbridge is a great gf beer. 3w
  •   nakeshamorgan Today is our 11th day gluten free. I've been sick for so long so I'm desperate to find peace. I'm feeling better but unfortunately not as well as I would have hoped. I'll go the whole month and if I still don't see a big enough improvement I'll eliminate dairy next! I'm such a bread and cheese fiend so I'm not super excited about this but I would love to not feel terrible after every meal! 3w
  •   ellesnaps Gluten free but you great shelves!!! :) 3w
  •   jenlac4 @agoldenafternoon well paleo bake goods def take some getting used to. I do like her orange chicken , meatballs, sauce, and such . Her banana bread is okay. By the looks of it you are a great baker so try cup4cup gluten free flour. I've heard great things .willaims and Sonoma carry it but you can find it online too. King author flour has helped me gain my confidence back a bit. Gluten free baking sure isn't for the faint heart. If I think of anything else I ll let you know. Oh and we have a donut maker that I use just plain boxed gluten free cake mixes in to treat ourselves. 2w
