artbytai About 6 or 7 years ago while I was at the #UtahArtsFestival, I was commissioned to paint these #ErnestHemingway paintings for the owner of a cafe in the Salt Lake City library called #HemingwayCafe. I haven't seen these paintings for years, but just recently stopped by to see them & noticed the owner put the word "Stars" over what was originally written as "All thinking men are atheists", an original Hemingway quote. The owner & his wife were taking so much flack from people about that quote, that they decided to just cover over it, cuz they were sick of hearing from all the rejects taking offense to a quote. Anyway, I thought it was pretty funny to see that. #AllThinkingMenAreStars :) 4d

  •   campbellsoup1414 Wow! I'm not sure exactly how I would feel about this/ this state that I live in and love #Utah has the most closed minded people I have ever met and I have lived in a lot of different places but relationships and the beauty of Utah keeps bringing me back!/ the paintings are beautiful and should've been left as is. 4d
  •   mollynewt Yeah I agree with @campbellsoup1414 Art should not be altered. Quotes should not be changed bc of discomfort/dis-ease...but I am glad you have a sense of humor/are easier going than I about it....interesting. Thanks for sharing. Humans can be very ignorant & close-minded. I like art because I feel it helps this...pushes the envelope. @artbytai 4d
  •   katmartinartist Ha! I would feel the same way Tai. I actually saw my art at the thrift shop once and at a yard sale another time. I was like- Welp, I guess they didn't like it anymore! It's nice that they still want to admire your work instead of trashing it in my opinion. 4d
  •   captainpegleg8 Man, you seem to have been acquiring the haters lately. That is definitely a good thing in my opinion. The people that didn't "get" your artwork, the snobbish "this is creepy" crowd, and then this- just means you're spot on. As the saying goes, art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable. 😈Hemingway understood, as do you. I love your artwork, and appreciate it even if I feel I might not always "get" it. All the best to you. Always anticipating the next awesome piece from ya. 4d

liquidine420 Probably my favorite place in the world besides the wilderness. The library! This five story behemoth with bee hives and a rooftop garden is my go to hang out spot downtown. You can find me sitting on the floor reading books or hovering over large topographic maps. #library #SLC #Utah #downtown #imahugenerd 6d
